Noy's 4th Walkabout
Crossed the harbour by Star Ferry first thing this morning and joined the incredible bustle of downtown Kowloon. This is raw life. Millions of people making a living from each other and the "innocent" tourist. We visited the "Avenue of Stars", commemorating the stars of oriental films along a very well laid out harbourside promenade, then took a taxi to Wong Tai Sin where we were treated to experiences of the harsher side of life. Massive aparment blocks, scarcely better than tenement slums, rose all around a very busy temple which also had a "Good Luck Garden" which had am amzing peacefulness about it. Three different religions are practised in the same temple, Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism! Then off by "tube" (called MTR over here) to see the Flower Market, Goldfish Market and, best of all (for Jill) The Ladies Market. As we walked closer to the city's main drag (Nathan Road) the pressure from salesmen got worse - lost count of the times we heard "Mister, Missy, you want coy watch, copy hand bag??" And "Sir, you've got a lucky face!!" Never did we believe that we'd be so happy to get on a ferry back to the Hong Kong side! Tomorrow, Bangkok.
