Well, we set off on an adventure across the Salt Flats of Bolivia at the end of May. Not knowing really what to expect, although we had put considerably thought into technical photos the night before, after a glass of wine or 3 ....
We were warned it was going to be cold, so we made sure that our tour guide had hired us some sleeping bags which of course he promptly neglected to do as he happily waved us on to what could have been a frosty death.
First day was spent on the salt flats, but from what I could tell I think we were on the moon. We visited some of the most desolate villages imaginable who existed purely on income from the salt - we've got a lovely pair of salt candle holders as our donation to the cause!!
Because of the unique landscape it allowed us to take some wacky photos that mess with perspective, although not all came out as well as we'd hoped. See what you think!!!
The next days were spent driving around in a Toyota Land Cruiser through landscapes unlike anything we'd ever seen. It was mostly desert terrain but with muchos (that's Spanish) rock formations and lagunas. Words cannot really do it justice - have a look at the photos.
As to the temperature - well imagine how cold the desert gets at night at 4600m in winter, and you wouldn't even come close to how cold we were. First night was pretty much just survival but because the git at the rour agency didn't give us sleeping bags, the second night Kathy and I managed to nab ELEVEN blankets by fair means and foul but we were STILL freezing! Yowsers!
I hope the photos give you some idea of the fun we had - a real highlight of our trip!
