Since our last blog we´ve zoomed through Bolivia, just surviving the pollution of La Paz!
We started on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca visiting the floating reed islands and even had a quick ride in a reed boat (we joined this tour within 15 minutes of getting off the bus - pretty impressive!). We then moved onto Copacabana on the Bolivian side. It´s a lovely sleepy little town, boiling in the day and freezing in the evening. Our hotel here was interesting with a huge mural on one wall of our room and a lovely furry Lion bedspread - we did have great views of the harbour though.
We had 2 lovely welcomes to Bolivia - one a small child having a poo in the middle of the street, and secondly a sandwich and chips so bad that even a tramp begging for food turned his nose up at it!
Anyway, not all bad at all - a day trip to the Isla del Sol to visit some more Inca ruins and a lovely jaunt around the island. Intended as a nice relaxing walk we were doing well until we took a wrong turn. Luckily a couple of others had too and we found out we had a fast hour´s walk uphill to reach our boat before it left, otherwise we would be staying on the island for the night. Russ set off at pace and thanks to my training at altitude over the past weeks I was able to keep him in my sight. We made it with seconds to spare, who knows whether the others made their boat (aren´t we caring and sharing?!).
It was off to La Paz the next day and the route into the city was fab with great views of its setting in the mountains. It´s a chaotic and polluted city but pleasant enough. We treated ourselves to a good british curry here and Russ was thrilled with our souvenir shopping expedition(!). I have to say though the highlight of our stay was a trip to the cinema to see Indiana Jones, despite the fact some ridiculous aliens appeared towards to the end.
Off to Uyuni next!
