Awhoop, awhoop, awhoop . . .
I had the wake up call of the hyenas at 5am, god they are noisy little b*****s. And they were in the camp last night trying to raid the kitchen.
Up at 7 for cups of tea and to somehow fumble through my belongings to find my 'clean' clothes for the day. 7.30 breakfast where I shocked the group by eating my first lot of eggs, let the egg-a-tarian commence.
We drove through the serengetti, seeing the likes of zebras, giraffes, elephants, yawn yawn! Drove past pride rock whicg is how the lion king came about. I'm watching the lion king on my return to the uk, it will be weird as to me it will be more meaningful than just a kids film. Simple life leads to a simple mind, to a simple person named vicky!
We came across a group of vans parked up, the big give away on these sarfari things that more than likely one of the big 5 will be sauntering around.
It was lioness' with one dominant male. I think we counted roughly 13 maybe 14 lioness' lying by a pool of water with the lion in the long grass. We sat for about an hour watching, as the lion came outta the grass and by the water, where one by one the females moved to sit closer. As it was scortching hot they moved one by one, the odd two by two, walked past our van, crossed the road and went to a kinda pride rock place to lie in the shade.
We did a little loop behind the lions where I had my happy time of making a new lake behind the van, hopped back in and we drove back round where the male was walking up on the rocks to the shade, his maine was incredible.
We slowly trudged back to the camp seeing the 'regular' animals on the way, had our dinner then it was nap time as we were heading back out say 4ish. In this time I braved a shower of jumping up and down on the spot soaping away while freezing cold water shocks tthe system.
Our second game drive thay day, we saw two cheetahs in the distance, more lions crossing the road to climb a tree. Just before we headed back to the camp, we went to a tree where a leopard was hanging out, she was amazing, an incredible creature. We literally stayed 2mins then set off, which I totally agreed with as she has cubs close by and the guides respect the fact to give her privacy, so that made me happy. Also the fact I got to see my leopard as the novelty of the other animals had worn, I still appreciate them but not such a rare occurance.
Once back at the camp it was tea and camp fire fun.xx
