-When we arrived in Bangkok, an hour or so late from the plane delay we were greeted by a sea of thai's all wanting to take us somewhere.
Wmade the mistake of not waiting in the official line and got picked up by a young man who didnt seem to have any identification in his cab, he put our bags in the boot before working out where we were going, and told us it would be 650 bhat, it was supposed to cost under 200.
we told him, in som version of thai where we wanted to go but he was unsure, we had allready set off by this time, I wittled him down to 550 and said thats all i had...which was a mistake.... he stopped and waved down an older driver, we got out the cab in the thick moggy atmospher, the sky was overcast and it looked like it was going to rain. It was supposed to be only 20degrees but the air was extremly close and clamy.
The young driver who was very friendly and said we were beautiful said "he knows"- pointing to the other cab.
We got in, and the whole way I was thinking we were to be dropped off at any random place in Bangkok and then be lost and it was getting dark, he past signs saying Sukhumvit road- the place we were supposed to go and stopped on a busy intersection with cars tooting behind when we shouted out -sukhumvit!, sukhumvit! before continuing the other way, or the long way aorund.
we eventually got to the hostel, checked in and bought tofu bugers and fries...which took ages and the tofu was cooked to a chrisp.

-The next day we slept in until 12:30 from Jet lag, we sat and ate breckfast as the monsoon rain poured down partially flooding the street, we ordered vegetarian breckfasts...lucys came with a tomato but mine didnt, tofu sasuages and bacon- dry and over cooked and some dry toast.
by the time we went outside to walk around bangkok the rain had gone and it was starting to get very hot in the afternoon sun.
We had decided to get a taxi to Khao Sahn Road, which is supposed to be a 'backpackers haven'.
The Traffic was hurrendous, not-moving...the we sat in the traxi for 15 or 20 minuits stuck in the congestion as the meter climed slowly whilst at a standstill before getting out and finding another way there.
The woman at the tourist infomation on Sukhumvit road said the best way was to get bus 511. The first 511 bus rejected us saying it didnt go that way, but the second took us. 3 monks watched us as we sat and paid 35 bhat.
We didnt get there until the evening, Khoa Sahn road was ok, we bought fallafel and a drunk australian man spoke at us for a few minuits.
Lining the streets are travellers getting their hair dreadlocked by young thai's wearing Rasta stripes with utra long neat locks, one told Lucy hers need fixing and showed her how it is done by sitting her down and using a needle to sow all of the loose hair into the lock around it, she decided not to let him do the whole head and thanked him before getting a tuk tuk back to the hostel.
Tuk Tuk drivers are crazy at night in Bangkok, the ride was the most fun we'd had. We stopped by a fruid shop and bought some crazy fuchia coloured fruits and some other pink lychee type things covered in geen tentacles.
it is 1am now and there is a thunderstorm and we are using the internet for free.
