Friday 11th July Victoria - Zodiac Adventure
Today was a day of leisure...............
We went whale watching in a zodiac with Springtide Adventures. We put on our red jumpsuits that acted as life jackets, hats and gloves and zoomed off in search of the Orcas. The wind was freezing cold and it wasn't long before a male orca surfaced next to our zodiac. Bloody awesome. The guide on our zodiac said she has never seen one so close before. There were many orcas breaching and bobbing around. Really exciting. We also saw seals and sea lions on our way back to Victoria. We went back to our hotel and cleaned up because we were going out for dinner with our tour group for our final get together.
We climbed aboard one of the jaunty little boats for a unique perspective of the city, a tour from the waterside. We passed by Beacon Hill Park where the worlds 4th largest totem pole is. It was 38 metres tall and very impressive. We went by harbourtown and had a look at the unique housing on the waterfront. We also saw bird boxes in the middle of the harbour. The harbour is also a runway for light aircraft and watercraft must give way to them. After the harbour tour we took a short walk to the Canoe Brewpub where we had a brewery tour in this 1894 heritage landmark building on Victoria's downtown waterfront. We have sampled the award winning handcrafted beers that are renowned in the Pacific Northwest.
From here Pete and I went late night shopping for hats for the grandkids. Nightcaps at the hotel next to ours because it had beautiful views of the harbour.
