Finally arrived at Kilimanjaro after a 45 minute flight from Nairobi. A small 40 seater plane took us through clear skies at 19,300 ft. I did a double take when the pilot told us, those on the left of the plane would have a great view of the mountain, as we flew close. Hang on a minute! We were flying at the same height as what the mountain is. I sure as hell hope he is not too close to nick off some snow. It was weird to see how high we will climb. Haven't met anyone from my particular group yet at the hotel. The place is buzzing with groups leaving over the next two days and a couple of groups who have just come back. Have met 3 nice Brits from Manchester. Joined them for a beer and crashed a tour group meeting of a group leaving in the morning. You can never have too much info. The weather changes in a heartbeat. One minute beautiful sunny clear skies and the next minute the wind is picking up every grain of dirt, every bird and leaves and whipping them up into mini whirlwinds. The air was thick with dust in seconds with the wind dying as quickly as it started. Dinner in a couple of hours and then a decent sleep in a real bed! I am joining the Brits on a trip to an orphanage in the morning and then a tour around Moshi. Our hotel is on a rutted dirt track on the outskirts of the town. We will walk to the orphanage to get our bodies back moving again.
