Up at sparrows this morning and on the road by 6:30am to get to the border at Malaba and complete all the formalities to exit Uganda and then enter Kenya. We stopped for fuel in no-mans-land and spotted some freshly painted white United Nations tanks and trucks on the back of a truck and trailer unit. Closer inspection found they had come from India and were destined for South Sudan. Interesting machines which were really quit small and looked rather old. Maybe that's just the way they were.
We had a pretty smooth transition and were back on the road in Kenya by about 9:30 am. We drove for around 3 hours, and stopped for lunch in a paddock surrounded by dilapidated old corrugated iron shacks. This was apparently a local Police Station. Could have fooled me. I wonder if they ever used the old tractor, overgrown with weeds and grasses in the middle of the paddock, for emergency use?
We stopped some 2 hours after lunch at a small town where I finally managed to buy some souvenirs. The one negative with this trip is that everything is to a timetable with little to no personal time to shop for the usual gifts and souvenirs.
Tonight is our last night of the tour and I start my journey home tomorrow night. We stay in Eldoret at the same place we stayed in on our second night out. It is persisting down with rain and there is no way on God's green earth that i m going to put up a tent, so it is an upgrade to a room for me. I must be getting soft in my old age.
A few drinks at the bar, a few speeches and handing over our tips to the crew then off to pack everything that I had spread round my seating area and lockers, ready for our finish in Nairobi.
