Preamble
Taranna, Tasmania
Getting into sailing has definitely been one of the highlights of my six month stint in Australia. The troops at Brighton yacht club were wonderful beyond words - THANKS POSSUMS!!! - and I felt like I couldn't get enough!
That's why when the following email appeared in my inbox the winds changed direction...
"Hi Jo,
How are you. My name is Paul, and I'm wondering if you're still interested in sailing on Rebellion for short or longer period. You wrote that you want to sail partly back to the UK. Well I'm sailing from Sydney to the UK in May. Only it will take me 12months to get there. If you are available and or interested, let me know and I'll contact you with all the details. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Paul"
"Wow, wish I could do that" was my initial thought...followed shortly by "hang on... what's stopping me?" Of course there are many viable answers to this question, visas, PhD, money, etc... but apparently none of these is insurmountable when you want to do something enough...
So sure enough two weeks later finds me flying to Tasmania to meet Paul to spend a long weekend travelling round in a campervan and doing some hiking to get closer to finding out whether I could survive 12 months on a 27ft boat with this guy…
