Koh Samui - December 18th - 4th Jan - Full moon madness
We catch the overnight bus from Hua Hin after some haggling we end up with a good price for the ticket coach and ferry. We are told we will be picked up at 8pm, great so we can grab a bite to eat and then get back in time, now RAT have to decide what to eat, after trawling around the streets for about 20 mins we finally decide on Italian, Carbonara for T and Pizza for R, not long to cook either....wrong we were waiting 30 mins for our food to arrive so by the time we actually get it served we have about 10 mins to scoff it down before we are due back to the B&B to get our taxi. We rush our food down and get back to grab the taxi by 8pm, no sign of the pre organised taxi, 8.15pm still no sign, at this point RAT are a little concerned, so R decides to go to the taxi hut which is conveniently located at the end of the road and ask where the taxi is, I am told that it is stuck in traffic - this is a tiny village...there is no traffic!!!! Anyway after a stern word by R to the taxi man, it finally arrives at 8.30pm, it's a good job because any later and we would have missed the coach!! Right so finally on our way to the coach station we get there about 20 mins later only to find that the coach is delayed, and wont be coming until 10.15pm...great at least we made it here!! The coach arrives at 10.15pm and we board for our onward journey to Koh Samui, an overnight coach ride to the ferry port and then a 2 hour crossing.. sounds easy enough!!!!.....Wrong, we arrive at the ferry port at about 5.30am, then we are told to queue up - we finally got to the front of the queue only to be told that we have to have a separate ticket for the ferry, we showed them our ticket, which we were told included the coach and ferry, but oh no!! so we run to the the kiosk to buy a new ticket, all in time before the boat gets underway! We have to spend 2 hours on here, and after a much needed coffee we try and sleep!!!
We arrive in Koh Samui at 8am - there are soo many taxis waiting to take us to our destination - Palm Island beach resort, this is about 40 mins away, so we take in the sights as we cruise from one side of the island to the other. We arrive about 9am, now all we have to do is wait for Amelia to get here, then the three of us will plan our assault on the Island of Koh Samui - Oh god is it ready for us?!!!!
We are staying here for 2 weeks as it is Xmas, we thought we would treat ourselves, the next 2 weeks were spent on some crazy nights out (Ark Bar and Green Mango) to name but a few!!, with some very early mornings and walks of shame, endless massages, manicures, pedicures, food and of course alcohol, along with skinny dipping shenanigans, the most amazing ladee boys and shows you have ever seen, the photos just don't so them justice, where they put their bits is completely beyond me!!! Plus we met up with the lovely Bath boys again!!
It was a very surreal xmas day, not quite the same having Bob Marley play rather than Slade, but all the same, the highlight had to be swimming in crystal clear blue water and having the sun beat down on our faces as we sip our Mai Tai's on Xmas Day!! PERFECT!!!!
After our stay on the stunning Palm Island, at Chaweng, we moved to Nara Gardens beach resort, which was located at Buddah beach, this was beautiful, it was a wooden type lodge set right on the beach front complete with hammock - BLISS!! We stayed here for 8 days - and it was from here that we were making our way over to Koh Phangan for the full moon party - 30 thousand people on one beach - CRAZY!! Stupidly we leave buying our tickets to the last minute and so the only crossing available was 11pm, we are told it's plenty of time to get there, so we book it up, with our tickets booked, outfits is the next big thing, we have various ideas all proving to be a pain, we had been told lots of horror stories about the full moon party and how you get splashed with neon paint like it or not!! So the question was what are we going to wear that we wont mind getting ruined, hmmm blank looks all round, we decided to get creative and make our own outfits - so we grab a taxi to Chaweng to see what we can custom together, after a few shops we settle on.....Thai Boxing shorts, plain white vest tops (to be decorated how we saw fit) but must say "RAT full moon, koh Phangan, 2009" We bought glitter, glue and permanent marker pens (blue peter here we come) all to be used to decorate our tops!!! RAT has turned into Rachel, Amelia and Tracy - The 3 Musketeers, after decorating our respective tops we all admire each others efforts of individuality - R has Lipstick kisses on, A- has Hearts n Stars and T has - Moons and Stars - Perfect!!
We start drinking around 8pm, so we ar well on our way by the time we catch the boat, a few drinks later, make up on, Blue peter vests and Muai Thai boxing shorts donned and we are good to go.... we head to the port for what we think will be the Best N/Y ever...... 2 mins later here we are, there are hundred of people waiting for the boat, we are told in no uncertain terms that the boats are all full and we wont be going to the full moon party!! Boooo Hoooo, noooooo, we say!! People are in fact queuing to get their money back, Huge disappointment all round, we reach the front of the queue to get our money back, after waiting 10 mins or so and are told that we are at the wrong port!! The organisers point us in the direction of the right one and we run for our lives to get there before the boat leaves, same story people queuing here although the boats are running!! we wont make it for ringing in the new year but at least we will get there!! While queuing we spot another boat across the beach where the queue seems to be alot quicker than ours, R & A run across the beach in a non Pamela Anderson stylee and ask if we can use our ticket to get his one, they say we have to buy another ticket, okay we shout at T to come over, while R buys 3 more tickets, Okay tickets bought, we board the boat, it takes 30mins to get there, but we are just glad to be on about that is actually moving. Yippppppeeeee!!! We ring in the new year on the boat, no music, no old langsyne - All very surreal!!!
The Full moon party was amazing we partied very hard and ended up getting the boat back in the morning, we got back to Koh Samui at 10am, had breakfast and then headed straight to bed!! After a couple of restful days, the 3 musketeers becomes 2, Amelia has gone to travel alone with a jam packed itinery in New Zealand, and R & T make our way to our next stop, back to the craziness of Koh Phangan!!
