Luang Prabang - Laos - Sunday 25th October
Arrival at destination 6 hour later, after a very long and cramped 2nd day on the slow boat we finally reached Lunag Prabang in Laos, this is a very beautiful quaint village which is slightly less developed than Chiang Mai, but still very pretty!! Managed to find a guest house not too far from the boat of which we negotiated a good price for, 200 Bht per night which is equiv to 4 Pound - bargain!! We met a really nice couple from Adelaide who also stayed in the same guest house as us next door!! The 4 guys were also going to stay here but unfortunately there was not enough room for them, so they stayed a few blocks up from us!! After getting settled and showered RAT put on our gladrags - ie Flipflops and shorts!! to meet up with everyone!! Dinner was lovely, sat by the Mekong River by candlelight, beautiful!! Decided then to move on to a few bars to check out the local cocktails on offer and Beer Laos!! Found a great place which was very cool and on the roof top with a plasma screen for the football, which seemed to please the boys!! Funnily enough we bumped into Kyle and Eden in exactly the same bar!! Small world!! Stayed here till close which was 11pm, we found out that there was a curfew of 12pm, otherwise you have been locked out of your guest house, we made sure we were back in plenty of time!!
Monday 26th October
Got up and had leisurely brunch, which was a whole baguette with butter and jam, lush!! A cup of t and juice later and we were set up for the day! We organised with everyone for us all to visit the waterfalls which Laos is renowned for, it took us about 45 mins to get there by Tuk tuk and the sights that met us when we got there were the most amazing you will ever see!! Cystal blue waters and lush greenery so exotic, hopefully pics to follow!!
Along the path to the various waterfalls we saw bears lounging in Hammocks, sooo cute!!
Spent most day here arrived at 1.pm left at 5pm a good few hours were spent here, and R managed to get the courage to jump off a rock into the water, big achievement, and it' s on film!!! Damaged her foot slightly but nothing to worry about!!! A plaster was needed, out comes the medcial kit, of which RAT left behind, so had to steal a plaster from the guys!! V. organised of them - We however are not!! on this occasion!! Note to self, take with us at all times. !!!!
Back to the room at 6.00pm, quick refresh then back out the door for dinner and a game of poole with the guys, R teamed up with Dale and Olly and T teamed up with Chris and Steve, games best out of three - fun times had by all!! A few buckets of rum and coke later and we decided to leave to get back in time before the 12pm curfew, left the guys to walk one way and RAT the other altho, guest house not so easy to find in the dark!!!!!!! it took us 45 mins to find it by which time it was 12.30pm, s*** s*** s***!!!!! Guest house were all locked up, and we started to panic!!!! Desperate for the toilet a bush stop was needed,...... v. classy!!!!!! Finally found our room 50 mins later, thank god the door was still open!!! Just about - will not make that mistake again!!!!! Well maybe!! ha ha
Tuesday 27th Ocotber -
Up early again for brekkkie, and a quick scout around the markets, of which RAT treated themselves to a pair of Thai flared trousers which are perfect for the heat!! Bus collected us at 12noon, and we started our onward journey up to Vaing Vieng for the Tubing!! This took a total of 5 hours and cost just over 10 pounds each there were 8 of us in all!!
Arrived at Vaing Vieng found a guest house which was very clean and tidy, own bathroom and fan, perfect, dumped our bags and met up with the guys for a couple of drinks and food, sat in a bar with loads of cushions watching friends on tv, R was in her element before early to bed!! Exhausted!!!
Wednseday - 28th October - DAY OF TUBING!!!! WHOOOP WHOOOOP
Got up at around 10 ish, had some breakfast and met up with guys and girls to get a Tuk tuk to go tubing for the day!! We collected our tubes and were taken to the launch point which was a bar along the Mekong river with fre shots of Whiskey on arrival and it only being 12 noon it is going to a long day!! We stayed at this bar for 2 hours and then launched our tubes onto the next bar, this is where we were met with another 2 shots of Whiskey and a bucket of rum and coke shared between RAT and Emily, v. strong indeed!!!!
A few dance moves busted out by all some particular classics by RAT, and then T decided to pluck up the courage to climb up onto the high ladder and plunge into the river below, she wouldn't do this alone so she was helped along by Steve - to hold her hand, quite literally, he did not let go until she came back up to the surface - Ah blesssssss him!!!!
Some bars later via drifting along on our tubes we finally reached a bar with the "Death Slide" a lot worse for wear by this point and few buckets later RAT took on the Death slide - OMFG it was soo high - (u tube it!!!) After realsing we had to buy a beer before we were able to slide down it - damn it, back down, beer purchased - ready to go again, dutch courage in hand, LETS DO IT!!!!! Wooooooooo Hoooooooooo!!!!! R 1st T followed - omg sooo scary but v. thrilling!!!
Back on the tube for the last time it started to get dark by this point, outcomes our paddling skills, kicking as hard as we can being careful not to get caught up on the rocks beneath the water, finally reached a pontoon with a couple of fishing men on them, we climbed their makeshift ladder, carrying tubes in one hand and pulling ourselves up with the other finally reached a tuk tuk to take us back to the shop to give our tubes back and get our deposit back, luckliy enough we made it with one minute to spare!! Sooo close!!!
After returning our tubes, a few more shots were taken... This finished R off!!! So.. a place to eat was much needed, R chicken burger and T Cheese Burger!! A few more drinks later and headed off to bed.
Thursday 29th October -
Caught our bus to Vientiene (capital of Laos). 4 hours later, finally arrived. Not really what we were expecting, a little less busy than Bangkok and so much more expensive!! We suppose you would pay more for being in the capital. Found a guesthouse which was double the price of Viang Vieng. Dumped our bags and headed out for food with the guys. Early night at 11.00pm.
Friday 30th October
Had the best night's sleep ever, double/queen size bed - mammoth!!! Up at 11.00am, leisurely strolled to find brunch. Booked our onward journey to Hanoi via the VIP bus. 24 hours OMG what will this be like!!! No beds just a reclining seat plus toilet!! Arrival expected in Hanoi on Sunday at 6.00pm. Update to follow.
