We woke up early to catch the 8:40 train to Ella. We heard this was a busy train with hardly any seats and stunning views. It would take 7 hours so we were both keen to get a seat. We had another delicious breakfast at nature walk hostel. When we paid up the card machine didn't work. As the slowly walker I told Charlie I would make a head start. An old- grandma-like lady came up to me and said 'just like a doll'. I didn't know what to say back so I just said 'good morning'.
We got to the station early enough. Herds of travellers gathered. The train was two minutes late. When it arrived, we were at the wrong carriage. Charlie weaved his way to the right carriage but it was too late.... A 7 hour standing train ride. I got myself as comfortable as possible. Put my bag down and sat on top. Not the best but we could make do. The most annoying part was every 10- 15 minutes, food sellers would insist you all stood up so they could get by.
There were some stunning views of the tea plantations. By hour 6 we got one seat and shared it between us. The comfort was indescribable! I felt grateful everytime another food seller came by and everyone would have to get up.... But not us anymore!
We arrived and got a tuk tuk to Mount Ella guest house. It's a very steep hill so I'm glad we did. The view was incredible. We went into town and grabbed some Chinese food from Green Jades which was very good.
