Hi!
Just got back from the helicopter ride and hike which was absolutely amazing! We went on a 10 minute helicopter ride over the glacier which was really good and pretty scary then we got out near the top of the glacier. It was really slippy so we were terrified that we'd slip down. Then we had to strap on our spikes and started hiking further up.
It was much harder than we thought so the guide forced me and Holly to walk with him because we kept lagging behind so that was pretty embarrassing. We got much better in the end though, you just had to learn to trust the boots to hold you up which is hard when your climbing up a huge vertical ice cube!
We walked around for 2 hours and then got the helicopter back down. I wanted to stay up there for longer because I really enjoyed it. The guide said the glacier is completely different everyday so had to use his ice pick to find a route through for us and then we had to hunt for little caves and things that we could go through.
We don't have any plans for the rest of the day so we're just chilling in the tv room and then going for dinner tonight. Leaving for Lake Wanaka tomorrow morning which is our last stop before Queenstown where I'll be staying for about a week.
Got some bad news too.....my hair straignteners have broken!! I am devastated that I have to waste my travel money on buying some more but I can't live without them. :-(
