I spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the primary school where Juanita works. She teaches English there and I went into her lessons. It's a new, small private school with only 48 children! Must be a dream to work in, such small classes! The children are aged from 4 to 8 and have 5 or 6 lessons of English per week. I was impressed that the third grade (8 yr olds) were doing something that we teach in Year 7 (11 yrs) in England! On Tuesday I did some vocab teaching- flashcards to teach animals and showed Juanita some of the types of games we play at home to learn vocab, though it's a while since I used flashcards as I have been spoilt with all the technology! It was really good fun and the children enjoyed it. I also passed on some of the activities that I do when teaching vocab and I even made a few resources! :-) Getting up was hard, 6am, but was worth it and nice to have the opportunity to go into the school. On Wednesday evening I cooked for Gilma, Juan, Juanita and Samuel- attempted Cajun Combo again without the Cajun spice! They said they liked it, I thought it was ok but my problem is I compare it to what it tastes like at home which is obviously different with the Cajun. Anyway it was a really nice evening :-)
Today (Thursday) has finally been the lazy day I have had planned on at least 2 other days here that never ended up happening! I've really not done that much at all, but it's been nice….especially with it having been probably the worst weather afternoon I think I've so far, grey and drizzly- a good day to be indoors! Enjoyed cooking again tonight, can;t say I've ever included celery and tomato in chinese food before but it's what I had left and it worked out ok! It's my 11th night here tonight, funny to think I thought I'd only stay for 4 nights originally.....
