Today we got up at a more reasonable time and I had another cup of coffee which was a complete luxury :) another ride of the tube, another soaked back from the camal back water bag, ruddy thing...I think that was its last chance...ill stick to bottles!
This morning we headed to Greenwich Village to visit the Highline which was originally a railway, which, once stopped being used got very run down. In the recent years the old railway has been made into a park which is no more than 15-20metres wide and 2 miles long. It still has part of the old railway in the gardens of the park and the architecture including public benches etc are very in keeping with the railway image. This was a pritty cool place to visit. Greenwich Village is a really cool place, much nicer than the city centre, it has little boho chic shops, cute houses and lovely places to eat, although obviously on our budget we weren't able to try any of them out! From here, we went on a little walking tour which we found in our lonely planet guide book...we saw the bar in which Bon Dylan wrote and performed his first song and New York University. We sat in Washington park which was really cool as it was New York University's welcome week so there was a lot going on! We saw so many different characters in the park, many were sat at chess tables waiting for passers by to join them for a game. We saw a bunch of girls arrive who had discreetly started sunbathing in their bikinis, well, discreetly UNTIL a Caribbean man walked through the park shouting 'woah ladies, woah' ....needless to say they were no longer sunbathing discreetly but they politely ignored him and put their earphones in to blot him out! Whilst we were paddling in the fountain we spoke to some fellow English guys who had been visiting a friend who was at university in the USA. They said that house parties/uni parties, etc were exactly like they were portrayed in movies! We had a very healthy lunch....a 'hot sausage' and an ice cream!
Felicty had a phone call from her Dad, I think he was trying to warn and prepare her for Trek America as we will be camping every night, Felicity explained to her dad that I had a positive attitude and that it would be okay, although she expressed that if we get lost in a woods somewhere and I start singing 'always look on the bright side of life' then she would probably turn around and punch me....guess I won't be singing that little song then! :)
Tonight we are staying at Wyndham hotel which is near Newark airport as our start for trek America is close by. Leaving Stephanie's and David's was sad as we have loved staying with them. David kindly took us to the airport and prepared us a care bag full if water, protein bars and fruit! So kind!
