Nim in Oz
Lots to fill you all in on! Have had a week of really weather with hardly any rain. The mornings and teh evning are really cold but when the sun gets out the temp can be between 14-17 C which isnt too bad considering it is winter here! Just had the one foggy moring which made work dificult as you could hardly see a thing.
The work this week has been pretty varried with more weeding as we did on monday but also tree planting and mulching. Mulch is ground down trees which looks like bark and sawdust. Moving it is really hard work using wheel barrows and shovels. But planting is really rewarding as at the end of the day we can look at what we have achieved. The weeding we have done needs to be done but can feel a little destructive.
When we've not been at work we've been out with the locals being taught how to play basketball and cricket. We also have had a meal out at the local pub, being by the coast here there is a lot of sea food on offer. On this occasion i tried deep fried flake, which is shark. Flake is as common here as cod is at home. I've also tried some other local food such as kangaroo burgers! Which are pretty tasty! :-)
Over the weekend we were taken to philip island which is about 40 mins away. A bus collected us on saturday afternoon and drove us around all the sites. Philip island is known for the pengiun parade and it was this that we were going to see. but first we were taken to see the beachs and habitats of the seals and birds around the area. At about 6 pm we sat along the beach and waited for the pengiuns to come out of the water on to the sand to nest in the dunes for the night. it was amazing to see hundreds of these little pengiuns (they're actual name) appear from the water and waddle across the sand. saturday night we sampled some on then nightlife, first a local bar and then onto a club. Was a really fun weekend.
However last night the wind got up and the rain started and today we have been up able to work as a result of the weather. Hopefully this wont be the outlook of the weather for the rest of the week as it would be such a shame not to be able to finish all the work that we have been assigned.
I'l have a go at uploading some pictues but i might not be successful until i get to Sydney.
