Hello again,
Just a quick one to keep you upto date on the last week. Unfortuately during my last weekend away in cape coast i ate something that did not agree with me. Bt to take a postive from what has been a rather dull and eventful week a trip to the hospital to see the doctor was an experience in itself. Had i not known that it was the hospital i wouldn't have been able to tell you where we were, the facilities were so basic, concrete floors and wooden benches, not dissimilar to the bus station that i have been using!! Despite its appreance the staff are hugely friendly and they had all the necessary medication to see me right again, a few days in bed although dull, i have managed to get into my novel!!
So unfortunately by trip that I had planned this weekend has been persponed for now but i still intend to go to bui before I leave. Before becoming ill and I was really starting to the get into the teaching it is very hard to we creative with the resources that I have but a few hours an evening pondering and I have manged to develop a couple of games and exercises that don't invovle rote learning or simple copying for the board- which takes a ridculous amount of time!! Rewards of stickers are hugely appreciated and the children seem to cherish their moment of glory and show it off to their riends who congratulate them which is lovely to see when the expected behaviour was flighting over it- as is usuall in the school!!
On sunday I went to a footbal match which was totally different to anything we had done so far. The crowd were insane dacing and playing music they had strange plastic horns and whistles. Some had arrived just in the underwear painted from head to toe in their team's colours. They are very passtionate about the game. I must admit i was most entertained by the medics who arrived on the pitch for every injury (which was very frequent) on a golf bugee lead by 4 medics running infront. it was hilarious it didn't matter how close the player was they drove their anyway. They would collect the player on the golf bugee and then drive him of the pitch where he would get off be inspected and then usually run straight back on again!! We only stayed for the first half as the heat was intense, although the rainy season we havent had rain in kumasi for over a week and the heat is too much afte an hour or so.
Will keep you informed of my next week at school and my trip back to the gold coast to Green turtle (fingers crossed) next weekend! Lots of love nim xxxxx
