Nikki's Travels
Hey from Byron Bay!
This is the best place ever - loads of shops, surfers, bars, cafes, a gorgeous beach and a top nightclub called 'Cheeky Monkeys' where we've spent most of our evenings!!
We were jammy enough to secure our own apartment here for the same price as typical backpacker accomodation which was fab since the hostel we first stayed at was bug infested and completely freaked me out! Outside toilets and showers = lots of spiders NOT GOOD!
Last Sunday we were collected by Byrons 'Happy Bus' and taken around Australia's most bizarre and most stoned town - Nimbin! Fred - our driver and guide was a total hippy (dreadlocks, tie dye t-shirt the lot) and was so happy the whole time he must have been high! He was brilliant and Nimbin itself was so strange it was also brilliant. I couldn't really work it out, the town had its own police station and yet in the space of 2 hours i think we were offered weed, 'happy cakes/ fudge/ cookies' and all sorts of other illegal substances about 30 times just walking along the street!! Obviously we kindly refused! Also weird, we were told to ask the hippys (which was everyone in the town) permission before taking any photos so that they could hide any 'evidence' i.e. weed! It was very surreal but everyone in the town was extremely friendly, mainly because they were all stoned it would appear!
We spent most of the rest of the week on the beach, that was until it started raining 2 days ago and it hasn't stopped since. The cyclone which hit Cairns a few days ago has caused bad weather along most of the east coast and unfortunately we're heading up so it might get worse before it gets better, but hopefully it will cheer up soon!
On Monday we had a great night out for Gills birthday, which started with drinks and a nice meal and envitably ended in Cheeky Monkeys and involved alot of dancing on tables and doing nasty shots! Tomorrow is Noshs birthday so we'll be at it again but this time it will be in Surfers Paradise where we heading to in about an hours time. After that its off to Brisbane, Noosa and Fraser Island which we're really looking forward to.
For now though its backpacks on again (its so heavy it hurts!!!) and back on the Greyhound bus. I'll be in touch again soon,
Missing you all,
Hope your all well. Loadsa love Nikki xx
