Okay so I am just a little bit behind on this blog thing but you'll have to forgive me as I am sick - sob!
So where do I start?? We arrived in LA and were picked up by a family friend which was awesome (thanks again Jessie) and taken straight to Santa Monica for some lush sushi and a beer (just what we needed after champagne, wine and beer on the plane). Then headed up the Shangri-La bar to watch the sunset which we missed as the guy wanted to see my ID. Yes you are right - I still look 21.
Sandra quickly arrived later that night (didn't really speak much as we were all exhausted - she has forgiven us now though).
The next day we headed on a very hot (no air con) bus to the desert - yes the desert. The ride to the site was fairly different from that to Latitude and Glasto in that we ended up at a desolate bus station in the middle of butt f*** nowhere (excusre my language). We eventually got a cab that took us to the site. Unfortunately we were preached at by the driver as we were all young, single women living lives of sin (I think he was Muslim). Anyway he tried to convince us that a life living under a veil and looking after children was a much better way to live life to reach the garden of eternal life (or something like that) which is what I plan to do once I have finished drinking my way around central america.
So Coachella was bloody hot but frickin awesome. When I say hot, it was about 37 degrees and as I mentioned at the time "this is too hot for a Brit". It was really different to the festivals in the UK in that it was very orderly, nobody pushed, there were no queues for the toilets and the toilets were all replenished with toilet paper on a regular basis. Best of all no one decided to burn them at the end.
That is all pretty good the downside is that you cannot drink outside the designated areas and it was a bit too hot (I know I'm never satisfied). So the things I did miss from the UK were the crowd surfers - no matter how much they hurt, people shouting b******s from their tents at 3am in the morning and drinking a can of bow while watching a band.
Now I come to the bands, I saw so many that I cannot list them here (or perhaps I will, we'll see). The top three were Elbow, Arcade Fire and The National. In a very close fourth is Tinie Tempah due to the massive brit contingent he brought with it. Seriously if they wanted to erradicate every Brit who was at Coachella they just needed to burn the tent during Tinie's set.
Now I was going to write three words to describe each band I saw but I haven't quite finished the list but here goes anyway:-
The Hurts - tbc
The Drums - Awesome 80's jumper
Cee Lo Green - Twenty minutes late
Tame Impala - Monotonous, drowning rat
Cold War Kids - Fav new band
Kings of Leon - Funny, signing lady
The Chemical Brothers - Too jet lagged
Mariachi el Bronx - tbc
The Foals - Would've been amazing
Elbow - Love, love, love
Erykah Badu - yeah pretty good
Mumford and Sons - Totally amazing stuff
Animal Collective - Don't get it
Arcade Fire - Flying light balls
CSS - Left half way
Angus and Julia Stone - tbc
Tinie Tempah - Brit contingent fantastic
The National - He sang "England"
The Strokes - Crazy dancing time
Kanye West - Entertaining douche bag
So I think that was everyone. I'll fill in the gaps later.
In all it was a great festival, and I even met up with an old school friend who I hadn't seen in like 20 years so that was pretty good. Some first impressions of the Californians were that they all seem to have tatoos, I mean everywhere you look no matter how old, young etc. Apart from that everyone was "like oh so friendly".
I have probably missed out loads from this but as I have mentioned I am ill - sympathy please.
I'm now currently in SF but I'll do my update for LA and Yosemite tomorrow.

Jess L I am well impressed with the 'three words about each band' - I am going to now adjust my listening habits at work this afternoon to try out some of the ones which seemed to go down well :) Glad you're having fun chica - sounds AWESOME. Loads of love, Jess PS - Poor poorly Nikki ;(
