Nicole's Caribbean Adventure
This Festival is named the 'President's Fete' in honour of the President of Trinidad and Tobago. The President, his wife and daughter were present and dancing in the crowd. Music featured includes, traditional calypso with steel pans, Soca which is like calypso music crossed with a dance beat sounding like African drums and Chutney Soca which is like Soca music crossed with Bollywood performed by East Indian Trinidadians.
Tickets Costs $150 USD. Includes All You Can Eat (West Indian, Creole, Chinese, Desserts) and an Open Bar (Champagne such as Moet and Riccadonna, Beer (Carib, Stag), Vodka (Grey Goose), Rum etc.) I had two coconut waters as they are excellent for hydration. I went with Uncle Jain, his nephew Anand and Anand's Afro-Trinidadian friend who is a doctor, whose nickname was Curly. (I don't know his real name!) They all looked after me really well by making sure I had fun and was safe. Mind you, the entrance fee filtered out pretty much all riff-raff! Security was high - there were secret service and military police bodyguards posted everywhere to protect the president.
