Hi all. We've had a very adventurous few days. We met our tour group on Saturday - brilliant group of people. That afternoon we headed out to an Aborogini Culture Park where we learnt how to throw spears and boomberangs (Phil did very well!) and had dance and music performances from Aberiginal's etc. That night we went out with our whole tour group, but unfortunately Phil's camera broke!
Next day we went to the Great Barrier Reef. We had a bus ride up to Port Douglas and took an hour and half boat trip out to the Reef pontoon. Here, we were able to take a ride in a semi-submarine - which we saw so much beautiful coral, fish and 2 TURTLES :) Then we had the rest of the day snorkelling - weather was perfect so excellent day! Then last night, we went out for dinner with our tour group. After a few drinks - there was a Goldfish Racing Competition - long story, but there were 8 fish from 'different countries' which were auctioned off. We paid $15 to take the Australian fish called Nemo! The goldfish was placed in a one and half metre, by 10cm long tank and Nikki had to blow bubbles threw a straw behind the fish to make it swim to the end where there was a finish flag. There were quarters, semi's, finals with all 8 fish and Nikki ended up winning! We won a bungy jump! Although, because of limited time in Cairns, we weren't able to accept the prize and had to trade it for drink vouchers!
Today, we went white water rafting on the River Tully. It was a 10km stretch threw Grade 4 rapids (grade 6 is unraftable!). It was the best experience ever. We were in a boat with 4 of our friends and one Kiwi tour guide. We even got to go down water slides in the river (made of rocks) and jump off over 4m high rocks. The currents were so strong and we didn't capsize at all! We'll be covered in bruises tomorrow though from all the crashing around!
We're off to Fraser Island tomorrow after a 7 hour coach ride at 6.30am! We'll be in touch when we next can! We bought a new camera today, so pictures will be uploaded when we can!
Hope you are all well!
Missing you all, P & N xx
