Nikki's World Travels
well here i am again for another exciting and awesome update from yours truly! So here i am back in civilisation and this week has gone real quick even though the rain has increased twice fold and have been drenched most days! So now that im fianlly used to sleepin on the ground the dad of the family has decided that i should not be gettin any sleep so snores (even louder than dad) all bloody nite and the mum does not seem to mind (i know that if that were my mum he would be walking round quite painfully for many days before he learnt that smoring is annoying!!!!!!!!!) So thats my rant of this postcard out fo the way!
This week we've been working more on the water tank at the TOP OF THE HILL - now i emphasise this point here as in order to build the water tank - buckets of stones are needed at THE TOP OF THE HILL which means we had to carry the buckets in chains all the way to the top - now that was hard work!
Now last saturday when we here last time we decided to go to some random disco place - we tried to order a bottle of vodka (no, mum the whole was not for me before u ask!) so after about 30mins of him going back and forth the dude was like "bodka we no have" so we ask for some whisky stuff that they have here so again we wait, we wait ( in the meantime we are rather thirsting ppl - ill set the scene here - we had been workin a whole wekk without a single drop of alcohol or any luxury so askin for one single drink - i ask u is that too much to ask??? "No" i hear u all cry!! So waiting for the whisky stuff we waited again 20mins then he comes back "biskey we no have" so hannah asked some random thai for his assistance and in the end we ordered 10 barcardi breezers (no mum, they were not all for me before u ask again!) So we had them and they kinda made me feel ill as v sugury so went home after a few hours dancing quite unsatisfied with my sobriety.
We went to visit another akha village where they did the last project - this one has no electricity etc so quite glad we weren't there again - while at the village we did watch some beetle fightin - i kid u not - it was quite amusing - a sport that i doubt would be a hit in the UK. On wed we went to play sports with the kids - not all wanting to play so soem of us played games with them - 4 of us faced with about 110 kids - what else could be play but musical statues, duck, duck, goose and the hokey kokey - great stuff!
So far i believe that i have the most comical momnet of the project - Je l'explique - while waitin for the cement to be brought up we decied to play a bit of limbo - so some of us did limbo under a bamboo stick - i went under and managed to slip (well, i was wearing wellies) so i went for the nearest thing i could see which happened to be the bamboo pole and pulled it on top of myself and cut my nose a lil bit - it was highly amusing - even to me!
On thur we went swimmin in some waterfalls - it was really lovely. You could swim behind the fall but had to swim like crazy to get under it - so me being determined to get under it attempted 3 times and on the 3rd go iwas in limbo between the fall and not makin it but i wasnt giving up so in the end jon pulled me in so i fianlly made it - yay - that was my achievement of the week!
Unfortunately we've had really bad weather and its been rainin like anything - yesterday the bamboo stuff support things on the bridge got swept away in some flash floodin - it took the villagers 1 half days to put it up in the 1st place - but luckily the concrete stands that we made survived!
Today i went to teach in the school and it was really hard work esp since they have a completely diiferent alphabet etc - but the kids were enthusiastic with the games we played so that was cool!
So...... plano for this weekend is to get really really drunk (just kiddin mum!!) umm tomo we aree going to burma for like 5 mins to renew are passports then going to some monket temple and a market thing in laos - on sun off to the golden triangle where u see thailand, laos and burma all at once so that should be pretty neat! Next week will be a short one as have mid-projec break so off to chiang mai on wed eve with 3 others - which reminds me that i have to look on net now for hostels so bye bye for now
thanks to everyone who has left a message
love nikki
