Hello everyone!
Bet you thought i'd given up on these dam journals didnt you. Well, I havent! I'm determined to plod on with them even though I have much more important things to be doing like lying on the beach and sitting on my a***!
I'm going to have to do a lot of back tracking now. I'll try to keep it as short as possible. In fact, it will have to be because I cant really remember Asia now. It feels like a million years ago now that i'm back in the real world of Oz. I cant believe how much I miss the scraggy dogs running under the table and all the beautiful teeny tiny people. Australians seem gigantic!
Anyway, onto Loas.
Loas is my favourite place of all the places that i've ever been to and I want to live there forever. I expected it to be as poor as Cambodia, but it was completely different. The houses were pretty French villas (from when it was taken over by France). I have never been anywhere so laid back. There were so many monks! In fact, we became so used to seeing them that Whit became obsessed and has vowed to marry one in the future.
We flew from Hanoi into the capital, Vientiene. This plane journey was especially good for me. I downed a bottle of vodka as we took off at 8a.m (Asian air staff are very liberal). From there we checked into our posh hotel (we thought we'd treat ourselves (again)) and went to a nearby cafe called Jo Ma's. It was the best cafe I have ever been to in my whole life. I cant quite describe how good the food and the caramel coffees are. I know that I get excited over cold beans and pasta, but this really was wonderful - and in the middle of Loas!! Who would have thought it. There was downside though. Unfortunately, like the rest of Asia Loas has beggers, so as I tucked into my big wedge of pizza were surrounded by a group of tiny children. This may sound harsh, but as we spent more time in Asia we became a bit more desensytized to beggers. Apparantly, local people prefer it if tourists just ignore them. I found this very difficult. Especially when I turned around to see them eating the crumbs off my plate! So I caved and brought them some fresh pizza to share! I dont care if its wrong!
We spent the whole of our first day in Vientiene (apart from sobering up) having massages and pedicures at a beautiful spa in an old french house. It was the perfect way to spend time in lovely relaxed Loas!In fact, we loved Loas so much that we decided we needed much more time there and altered our whole itinery. When doing this we completely forget that we are all retards. So, after spending an entire day in an Indian man's stuffy little shop where he spent hours hand writing us plane tickets (!??) we ended up in a bit of a mess, but i'll tell you about that in a later journal entry (ooo - the suspense!).
