Well its p!ssing it down !!!!!!!
So thought i would update this as i have NOTHING...NOTHING else to do :-(
I flew form Melbourne and spent 4 days in Christchurch. There isnt a great deal to do there apart from shop or the botanical gardens (voted number 8 in the world...because i know your all interested). I did manage to join in on a game of football on the last night i was there. Just like in Cairnes, a load of backpackers all gather on a near by field and play. So i was pleased enough. Oh and i went for a night out with some others from my hostel, but it wasnt a big night.
I left Christchurch with a small Kiwi Experience bus with just 3 others. Later that day we joined the main Kiwi bus and drove to a place just outside West port where you could do Quad biking, River Speed boating or horse riding. I chose to do the SPEED boating. We all got kitted up, i looking rather dashing to say the least in green fishermans pants, large blue rain coat, yellow life jacket, yellow beenie and ... yellow sunglasses ! (check out the pics). With all this kit on we all tought we were in for some serious speed and wetness (if not near drowning at the least) So off we went, the driver informing us that he has managed to get 75kmph out of this boat. for the first 20 mins we travelled along at about 35kmph while he talked about the river we were in and the rain they get (as it was starting to rain), this was all well and good but i/we wanted SPEED ! so eventually he tels us to put our camera's away and when he spins his finger in the air it means we are going to do a 360 spin. hahah this is what we'd paid for......................... but what we actually got was a different story. The maximum speed we reached was about 50kmph and the now heavy rain felt like hailstone on your face. Every now and then he would do a 360 spin, which to be fair was fun but only lasted a few seconds and that was it. All in all a tad disapointing. But ne mind live and learn.
That night we stayed in Westport, a few of us went out for some thing to eat and a few drinks. The peopple on the bus were nice enough. People were falling all over them selfs to be friends with me, as you can imagin. So i picked a select few. Andy aka Andycap (from newcastle), Dave aka Big Dave (from), Emma aka Dutchie (from Amsterdam), Cat aka Kit kat (from ) and Flo aka Florence (from Belgium) just so you all know !! Al the other were a good crac 2 Donna, Louise and Dennis aka Denise. We had an early night and in the morning a few of went for breakfast in the ghost town, no joke you could of landed a jumbo jet on the main street and no one would notice. On the way back to the hostel we walked past the bus and noticed that one of the bus windows had been smashed. When we went and told the drive (Jarad) and had a look inside the coach we spotted that some one had thrown..................... a garden gnome though the window !! awesome !!! they hadnt tried to take any thing, just wanted to smash the window. So we had a couple of hours delay then we set of on our busted bus to Lake Mahinapua to meet up with another bus. Everyone had to sit towards the back of the bus and we put umbrella's up in the bus to try stop the wind !
B4 we arrived in Mahinapua we were told that we would be having a bin bag party that night in a special hostel and to buy every thing we needed from a supermarket just b4 we reached the hostel. Me and Andy after many, many bad ideas decided to go as Steve Wonder and a white Ray Charles (Andy being Ray Charles...just incase you coouldnt tell on the pics) When we got to the hostel (which was in the MIDDLE of nowhere) we wre greated by 85 year old Les, or some age near there (check the pics). To be fair the hostel put on a great steak, vennison and pasta lunch for 3 pounds. After that we started making our outfits and joined the party. as you can see on the pics, it was an awesome night. Not only because the Northern Monkey's won the Drinking competition (we were never going to loose if were honest). Half way through the night people started stripping out of their bin bags as it was just sooo hot.
The next morning we headed of to Franz Josef arriving at about 3pm we signed up for the Glacier walk the following day and checked in to our hostel. Then a few of us went to play paintballing. Having played a few times in england i thought i knew what was coming. There were only 6 of us playing but that didnt stop the fun or the pain. Unlike in England where you play in large open fields coverd with objects and building and such, this was pure Rain forrest jungle. It was so thick and... well rainforesty (not a word i know !) it was such a laugh, especially when trying not to laugh and give my possition away after i just shot Andy in the knee cap.
This is getting long now so will continue later.
Hope every one is well
speak soon xx
