Hey everyone,
so the other day I just stop to think if this place could be any better - and - it totally cannot:) well I ve been up to billion activities since my last entry - I took superamazing trip to Java with my local friend, spent a weekend in Ubud (cultural centre of Bali), snorkled in East Bali's diving mecca Amed, saved 3stray puppies, worked on many school assignments and didn't surf at all - ok that's the only negative aspect of past few days - there was no swell and ocean is completely flat.
Anyway school is getting busier every week - we will have soon first tests plus homeworks and presentation are on the program almost daily, but one still can definitely find time for their own activities - and really - there is literally thousands possibilities! But back to school - as I mentioned earlier - that except classic lectures at uni there is also many workshops and excursions organized for us - so far we had traditional balinese clothes workshop and just recently traditional dance class - so first more into dancing - cause I still have it vividly in my mind:) I guess this workshop was definitely a "girl thing"- because surprisingly - we really had to actually practice the dance - which is incredibly difficult yet totally impressive, if you know how to do it of course. Safe to say - most of us really sucked:) especially boys looked incredibly funny trying to produce this really special moves. You basically have to get to move everything - from your fingers to your eyes and most of us ended up really badly squinting - so don't think that balinese dancer could be my back up career at all:) For this traditional clothes workshop, we had to go first to the market to buy the actuall clothes and haggle over the price in Indonesian. Can't say that we are exactly fluent after couple of lessons, so luckily our tutors helped us-a lot:). The other day we brought the outfit and learned how to wear it properly, which is kinda easy for girls, since there are basically only three parts, but guys had it a little more complicated and the whole point was to wear this outfit on the Udayana Uni anniversary in March.
Also we had excursion to the Balinese ceramic centre, which is a government owned entreprise, they just produce and test various possibilities how to make pottery but cannot actually sell them for profit. We had an opportunity to try how to make a pottery on a ceramic cirlce, but most of us ended up with probably the same result as we had in dancing:) actually I have new respect for those who can really do it, cause its hard as hell. There was also task involved, we were supposed to write an essay afterwards on how to raise productivity of the centre and what would be the most efficient marketing strategy.
Last but definitely not the least - trips - Java was awesome, I had a chance to see it from a perspective, that can only local provide. We visited a home village of my friend, made traditional cakes only typical in the province of Surabaya, travelling only with local buses. Well pretty much indescribable experience. So as the unique diversity of Amed's underwater life, at many beaches stretches along that area - snorkling is accesible directly from the coast or u can pay a little for a boat for some more serious diving, there is also a japanese shipwreck quite close to the shore. All and all we r really having quite much fun:)
Next week is looking up with the swell forecast, so hopefully I will compensate for the past two weeks without surfing and still there so much i yet to come, so c u next time,,,
