Got up at 10 an headed for some breakfast, bacon, hash brown and egg bap, yum!! Gathered the troops while at breakfast, namely: soph, Katie, jess, huy, and Amy.
Went to the shop so people could buy snorkels and we could grab some food for the day. Then headed out to find a water taxi to take us to koh naang yuan. Haggled a bit over price, but could only get it as low as 200 baht p/p, but still not too bad. Headed out to the island.
It's the iconic koh Tao image, two islands separated by a strip of sand. I was keen to get some hardcore snorkelling in, but was dubious at first due to the plethora of Asian tourists in the shallows with life jackets on, but it was actually pretty special, both sides of the strip of sand.
Had to swim 100 m away from the shore before you saw any live coral, but it was there, and amazing. Fell in love with the anenomies with the little fish poking their heads out just like in finding nemo.
Got very into the snorkelling, diving as deep as I could, to explore the amazing coral formations or chasing fish around under water, but my lung capacity could definitely do with some work! Definitely keen to try some scuba, as it just means you never have to surface, and can fully explore the formations and shoals.
Got bold at one point and decided to die through an underwater cave (I could see light on the other side so knew I'd be able to breathe!) but it was very freaky, and I must admit I panicked a little bit causing me to kick out hard. Unfortunately thrashing while in an underwater cave isn't the best plan, I sliced my left foot open pretty badly! Worst injury I've had in a long time.
Fled back to the shore double time incase the sharks got me!!
Stuck some band aids on it, then went to reception to ask for something more permanent, they gave some iodine, cotton and gauze. Katie very kindly acted as nurse and sorted me out with it (the staff were not very interested!). But I think that's no more snorkelling for me today :-(, just hopefully won't need stitches as that could compromise diving chances :-/ but I recon Harry will let me either way :-D.
I wandered up to the viewpoint and got the iconic photo (cover pic). Covered my foot in a latex glove for when I'm gunna have to jump off the boat taxi.
Straight to the hospital from there, and had 7 stitches :-( cost around £100 but hopefully insurance will cover it. Also got stocked up on antibiotics, which means no drinking for 7ish days :-((
Went for food with sophie and treated myself to a very expensive (but tasty) burger.
Chilled hard for the rest of the day, just reading in bed, and chatting to the people in my room (also all chilling). Bed at 12 (couldn't put the book down) but gotta wake up for 8 tomorrow to get the wound re-cleaned :-(
