I have finally arrived in Lima! Getting off the plane was long because of the swine flu paranoia, but I walk out and there id a swarm of taxi drivers, family members, and random shady people crowding the gates like fans olong the red carpit of the oscars. I walk cautiously, wary of my surroundings. I was told that Lima can be an unsafe place. I take one scan accross the room and get a sense of relief when I see my name written in big block letters on a sign held above the mass of people. The gentleman calls my name: "Nicolas?". I nod my head.
His name was Luis, and he was my driver. I asked him if he spoke any English, but he probably knew less then me in Spanish. So as we drove to the hostel, our conversations were mainly (or should I say only) in Spanish. Little did I know, I spoke more Spanish then I thought! I realized that when I was forced to speak the language with no other alternative, I remembered words I thought I forgot.
We arrived at the hostel in Barranco. Barranco, like Miraflores is a beautiful neighbourhood, that is slightly safer and more upscale than the rest of Lima. It is also where all the nightlife is! As I settled in, Simon, one of the guys working there showed me around. It was very nice and cleaner than I thought! I wasn´t planning on going out, so I went on their computers and started blogging. A few minutes later, a girl named Rose sat next to me on the other computer. She immediately started talking to me and invited me to go out with her and her friends. They were five girls so I could not refuse. Rose and her friends were from England, and had just finished volunteering in Ecuador.
Half an hour later we were out to BeerHaus. I stayed there for bit, but then decided to go back to the hostel. I was tired from travelling all day and wanted to get some sleep since tomorrow I was exploring the city, and meeting Eric´s friend, Mirella...
