Today I was going to two places. First, I was going to the National Historical Museum of Brazil, and then I was going to see the Corvocado (Statue of Christ). I left at 10am and decided to walk there. I had been doing a lot of walking lataly because I had grown a little belly the past few weeks. I had also been trying to have a glass of Acai a day. Acai is very common and cheap here and it is known for its antioxidant properties and weightloss benefits. It was kind of ironic because I had trained so hard at the gym before my trip because I knew I was going to the beach in Rio, and when I get here, I get a belly!
I got to the museum and spent about two and a half hours there. It was probably one of the best museums that I went to during my whole trip. It was so interactive and I really got to learn about Brazil's history in detail. I had lunch at the museum cafe and then took the bus to the Corvocado train station.
When I got to the station, there was a guy who spoke French perfectly who tried to persuade me to go with his company that was like a taxi service up the hill. However, once I found out that I had an amazing discount with the train ticket, I went with train. The train was 20 minutes uphill. When I got to the top, it was really amazing. Here, hundreds of religious and non-religious people gathered to see a site that was one of the wonders of the world. I enjoyed the wonderful panoramic view of Rio and went back down at 5pm.
I was also planning to go see Daniela at work but sadely did not have the time since the museum where she worked closed at 5pm. Therefore, I went back home, and went grocery shopping. I realized that I have now surpassed my budget for this trip and I needed to find ways to save money.
After supper, I met Daniela and her friend Sula at a metro station at around 9pm. Tonight, we were going out to another club wthat played a more varied type of music. I got along with Sula right away because she is such an energetic open person. She spoke English and French, but was a little shy to speak, nevertheless, she tried in order to communicate with me. Sula had to go back home for a bit, so Daniela and I had a drink at a nearby bar since it was still early to go to the club. Here, you can drink on the street and it is very common for crowds to overflow out of the bar and drink on the sidewalk.
At midnight, we went to the club. The club had two floors with two different dance floors. It also had a games room, smoking room and a little shop! It was like a house party! After a few drinks, Sula and another friend named Julie joined us. We danced until sunrise, which is better because leaving before would mean taking an expensive taxi. Leaving at 6am means that the metro is open = cheaper way back home. I guess that is why Brazilians party until the morning...
