Hiya, had a fun packed week and a bit! Got the Tranz Alpine train across from Christchurch to Greymouth, amazing views of rivers, hillsides and vast nothing-ness! Then spent a day in Abel Tasman, did a walk along the bays edge - however got our wires crossed with which path to take so ended up walking 1.5 hours longer than needed to! Meant we only had 15 mins to gobble our lunch before jumping into a 2-man kayak and rowing back! Was a great day though, very tropical, almost felt like Fiji again!
Had just recovered from the walk and we hiked the Franz Joseph glacier, absolutley amazing fun! Very cold at times but brilliant! Can't believe there is a glacier just sitting there between 2 massive hills! mental!
We have now been in Wanaka for 2 days and walked round one side of Lake Wanaka yesterday, though not as far as would have liked as my knee was giving me jip! So today we hired mountain bikes and biked up Mount Cook!!! Ha ! Not really! We cycled round the other side of the Lake, some massive houses along the lake, could easily take up residence any one of them! All was going well.....However........ after stopping for lunch at Alberts Town (hilarious name - maybe onbly 1 person lives there - Albert!) Well......Jennys chain snapped! argh! After 15mins of both of us trying to put it back together and comparing it with my bike boke upside down on the track - must have really looked like real plonkers that didn't know what we were doing! I ended up cycling ahead and let the hire place know that Jenny would be late so not to charge us extra! When she did get back we got some chocolate covered raisins from the girl at the shop - so all was good!
Away out for dinner - budget kind of working well! Rieslings will definitely be required tonight!
