Our last entry from South East Asia...
So we landed safely in Bali after worrying loads about the flight. It's been a fairly eventful few days here in that Michael was pickpocketed by a motorbike riding ladyboy in a dark street at about 3am after going for a snack during the cricket with our American friend Mark. Not too much damage done, just an annoying day spent ringing various banks and insurers.
Other than that we've just spent our time on the beach or by the pool or in the shops spending money we don't have. Michael attempted to teach himself to surf one day too which was fairly amusing. He reckons he managed to stand up a couple of times but there's no picture evidence to verify this. I saw him get completely wiped out by a big wave and watched to see if he would appear after his board went flying in the air and hurtling back down nose first. Didn't get him unfortunately.
Flying to New Zealand tomorrow with a 6 hour stopover in Singapore on the way which isn't as bad as it sounds as it is the best airport in the world with absolutely loads to do. Get to NZ the next morning to meet mum and my relative Graham.
6 months in SE Asia has been great but we're definately ready to move on. We've enjoyed all the countries we've visited, each with it's own highlights and annoyances. Particular highlights were the tour of China as a whole (which doesn't seem like 6 months ago), Sapa in northern Vietnam, our boat trip in the Mekong Delta to Cambodia, Angkor Watt, trekking and white water rafting in northern Thailand, our lazy week in Ko Tao, seeing the orangutangs in Sumatra, whale sharks in the Phillipines, climbing Mount Kinabalu and diving at Sipidan Island in Borneo and relaxing on the Gili Islands.
Despite how it sounds in the last entry, we have had a nice time in Indonesia and seen some unique sights in Flores, just wasn't very easy that's all!
Now onto the next half of our trip, hope it's as good as the last 6 months...
