Friday 3rd September
We had a fantastic fun packed Friday! The day started with breakfast in the room and then we headed down to the central region of Hong Kong island to get on the escalator up to the mid-levels.
The escalator is a wonderful solution to the daily commute down through the windy and hilly streets of traffic jams. It is simply an outdoor escalator that runs directly from the mid-levels to the main street below. Luckily it has a roof and so it was a great way to see the busy rain soaked streets whilst standing still. The rain today was like nothing we have ever seen! It was great fun making our way around Hong Kong in the heavy rain, stepping in and out of different buildings to dry/cool ourselves down. The weather here is incredible really! The heat is extremely strong, and definitely hairdryer heat, and the rain crazy monsoon-rain - but it didn't matter one bit!
Our next stop was looking at the big buildings on Hong Kong island, briefly going to the HSBC building and then to the Bank of China Tower, which is set up for tourists - with a viewing platform on the 43rd floor. The views from the tower were brilliant!
The famous Star Ferry then took us across to Kowloon. The Star Ferry has a beautiful fleet and it was a really enjoyable journey with brilliant views of both sides of the harbour. Once in Kowloon we ate and then took the MTR up to see the Wong Tai Sin temple. This is a Taoist temple and is a beautiful calming collection of buildings and gardens among the huge tower blocks. We really enjoyed walking around the Good Wish Garden in particular.
Our final sightseeing trip of the day was the Space Museum. We had been promised by their website that the space museum would show us the future. Sadly it appears the museum hasn't been updated since the early 1990s and so the 'future' we were seeing was now! We had fun playing on the ancient exhibitions though and the museum, despite being in need of love and attention, was still informative, and ended another amazing day in Hong Kong!
Saturday 4th September
This morning we headed out early to take the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak. The tram pulled us up very steep hills, with incredible views along the way (the buildings looked as if they were leaning while we were riding along at impossible angles!). When up on the peak we had breakfast at the Peak Lookout, where the food was delicious! The weather was the best it has been in the three days, and so we were able to see quite a bit from the top and there were stunning views down to busy streets of the island and over to Kowloon below.
Our trip down on the tram was excellent too, with the views whizzing past us. We headed over to the Zoological and Botanical Gardens, which offered some cooler air after walking from the Peak terminal to the gardens in the heat. There are lots of animal enclosures in the gardens, including primates! We saw gibbons and marmesets swinging around - it was brilliant!
It is our last day today and this evening we will be taking a Star Ferry Symphony of Lights cruise, which we are really looking forward to. This is our last blog entry, and we will be very sad to leave our honeymoon behind but we truly couldn't have wished for a better honeymoon and have had the most amazing time! Thanks for reading! :)
