nicola's adventures
fri 28th july
hey all got up late again this morning, still so jet lagged, feeling groggy and in desperate need of a body scrub (most missed item of the day defo). Took the MRT (which is like an underground system) from Kallang to Bugis to give out legs a little rest after yesterdays treks. All the singaporians seem to do is shop and eat, there are so many shopping centres, seen two MAC shops!!, none of the stuff is suitable for my travellign budget though. had lunch at breadtalk, a little bakery thats so cheap and does the most amazing carb treats yum yum. after lunch my search began for a body scrub, cannot go another day without one...i did an adeola in several shops and asked for free samples but they were having none of it...so had to buy one in the end. got cornered by 20 or soem screaming uni students asking us to do them a favour. we had to chant: 'we love smu' while they filmed us for some promotional stuff..smu=singapore management uni, which is very impressive. after all the shopping we thought we would be cultural and visit some museums...the national singapore museum was amazing but closed. all the buildings here are uber modern and funky. we found singapore art museum omg i was bored, amie loved it! the photography section was actually really cool and has made me wana take up photography when i get home. tried to get a trishaw bike thing home but the man was going to charge us too much, far enough it is a long way but think he just saw the size of our bums and thought no way! took the MRT back to hotel and walked the last part, had our first encounter with a bug, it was huge, btu the only bug we have seen in singapore. amie and i are still very uncultured...we saw a tanks full of live frogs in a restaurant and shreked as we walked past...poor ppl eating them ...must have put them off...not ready for animal cruelty yet...going to start a free the frogs campaign similiar to the free the jelly baby babies campaign that im sure soem of u are familiair with. after a few tiger beers amie and i are planning on smashing the tanks causing a frog disease epidemic in singapore.
there seems to be two sides to SP, the westernised side...shopiing malls, western restaurants, huge skyscrapers, etc....
and then the suburbs , where we are staying at the mo, its such a contrast....no tourists, religious shrines on the streets, strong smell of incense, food courts, markets etc
been really nce to experience both sides of SP
SORRY if todays entry long, but this journal is for my own records too, going to print out when i get home.
ok ...evening went to the night safari (rachy bum u have to do this one) def the highlight of our trip so far. we took a bus there and were allowed a 45 min tram ride, was like 9 at night so pitch black and we are riding around in trams through themed areas of the zoo...jungle, rainforest, africa. was amazing saw so many animals...elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, buffola, giraffes...loads they were all so close too. we stopped halfaway round and went on a walking tour. amie and i in the middle of the rainforsest looking for leopards and teh skys open for a monsoon!!! out come the rainmacs!
