So after a brief (18month), break from our travel writing, were off on another adventure. Slightly smaller scale this time (on account of the fact that we are now supposedly "grown ups", and work somewhat gets in the way). But nonetheless will hopefully provide some further entertainment.
So we've come to copenhagen. Essentially the easyjet flights were cheap and the Christmas market is apparently epic.
Our morning started early (as usual), and after we had persuaded the suitcase to shut (something of an ordeal requiring assistance of three, but less so than watching us trying to pack rucksacks), and we managed to squeeze in a significant amount of Duty free shopping time. So much in fact that the gate was closing and we were somewhat panicked- not so panicked to break into a trot however- didn't want to spill the costa. Non disastrous though.
Navigated our way through the orange flight and on to the Copenhagen train. Not as cold as expected, although I'm sure our hats and scarves will come in useful (aim for Gemma: not to lose a hat).
Got off the train, lost, got a cab, found hotel- pretty nice. Kennel sized gingerbread house in the reception; casual. Quite narrow beds however - best lay off nibbling on the gingerbread kennel then.
Went to the Tivoli Christmas market for the afternoon. It could rival any of the Chinese entertainment parks, except better as people didn't want to take our photo 24/7. It's hard to describe the Christmas market really- sort of a cross between a theme park, a market and a park....split in to different countries.
Santa was hiding in a Chinese pagoda. And just outside the pagoda were some real reindeer! There was an enormous amount of shopping (some of which was lovely, and some was definitely
Questionable...let's just say if you particularly like incredibly tasteless Christmas decorations such as an orange pug complete with fluffy collar, or a twerking frog, you'd be in heaven).
Had our first hot dog (fast food of the city it seems!), and then nic decided it would be an excellent idea to go on a ride...20 minutes later were spinning around at high speed 30metres above te ground In tiny metal seAts. If we weren't cold before we certainly were after! At least we did get an incredible view over the city (albeit blurry for those who were told to remove their glasses for fear of the wind removing them).
After another shopping episode and a late night hot chocolate to warm us up we headed back to the hotel for a much needed swim and sauna.
Tomorrow....Copenhagen by bike and the little mermaid!
