An air of intense concentration hits our silent hotel room as we attempt to get all our precious trinkets home in one piece by rolling, folding and carefully wedging- easier said than done when you only have a backpack!
As you can imagine, our feet have suffered a fair bit of wear and tear over the last couple of weeks. So we decide that this morning is the perfect opportunity to pop along to "diva lifestyle" (time out recommended!), to grab a pedicure, so that our flippers are slightly less disgusting when we disembark. The whole salon is purple and shiny, but seeing as its reasonably priced, we decide to go for broke and get manicures as well. An hour later (after the poor technicians have worked up a sweat) our hands and feet have been exfoliated, buffed and polished to within an inch of their lives and we're ready to head to M on the Bund for brunch before we leave.
Sitting on the sunny rooftop terrace sipping a champagne cocktail with great views over the river, I can think of worse places to be on a Sunday morning. Add the limitless cappucinos and delectable food and I've nearly run out of superlatives for this place.
Half hour later and were on the fastest train in the world, speeding along at hundreds of miles an hour en route to Beijing airport. Despite the plush, spotless surroundings, we soon hear the familiar hacking sound of a Chinese man curling his saliva, ready to hurl it a few feet into the distance. Simultaneously, we chant "surely they can't do that here?!"...it seems that even after two weeks here, we can still misunderstand the fundamentals of Chinese manners.
Will check back in at Abu Dhabi! X
