We're back in Delhi. It's boiling but bearable and infested with MEN - they're everywhere you look! I don't know where they hide away the women, but India sure is a mans world!
We had a 2 day stop-over in Chandigargh which sounded good in the Lonely, but in reality was yuk. The train from Shimla to Kalka was heavenly - an toy train dripping with an old elegance of burgendy. The view was green mountains swirling with cloudy mists so thick that the little village lights looked to be in mid-air. We got off that train at 9pm hoping there would be a bus to Chandigargh. At the big bus station the man we asked directed us to stand on the side of the very busy road instead of at the station and I thought we were supposed to hitch-hike... but sure enough about 20 minutes later along came a bus which picked us off and whisked us off to Chandigargh. We arrived at about 10ish to the hotel recommended in the Lonely - after about half an hour of rest, Mendo got up to go to the bathroom and whilst the light was on noticed something moving in the bed... Pulgas! Fleas! Sooooooo after arguing with the hotel staff (who were asleep in the corridors) for about an hour, we managed to secure another, smaller room without resident fleas. The staff weren't happy because they said once the light is off the fleas won't harm us... we weren't that worried about the fleas harming us, we were worried about them making a home in Mendo's dreds.
Chandigargh is a bit like Canberra - they needed a capital of the state, so had a design competition and then flattened a few hundred little villages to make the city. When they were flattening the villages a local saw all the materials that were going to waste and so he collected and recycled to make the now famous (apparently) Nag Chandra Rock gardens which is decorated by recycled figures of people and animals and village scenes etc. He this massive garden for years before anyone found out. It said in the Lonely that he was inspired by Gaudi amongst others, so of course Mendo and I had to check it out. It was quite impressive and quite beautiful. I'll try to get the photo's on here, but having some trouble so far.
So here in Delhi we will stay for a little while, we'll shoot out from here to such places as Agra before heading off to explore Rajasthan soon. Can you believe we've been here less than a month? We can't... and neither of us have been intimate with a toilet yet - yippee!
On that charming note I will Love you and leave you. Anyone who's got a shade of angel in them please visit my parents for me. They are very special people. I'm sure Mendo's parents would love some company too. Also CONGRATULATIONS to Joel and Mel - they will be parents in the new year, just after Daniel and Simone. Mendo and I are so happy for all 4 of you, and desperately sad that we won't be there to experience it all with you...
big fat sloppy jaloppy kisses.
Nic and Mendo.
