Today has been interesting to say the least.
I started the ride today full of drugs after waking up feeling very poorly and for the first 20kms I could hardly turn the pedals - I was extremely slow, every metre felt like a mile and every pothole seemed to vibrate through my head. Fortunately after about an hour the drugs started to kick in and I started to feel better.
At the first drinks stop I filled up on biscuits and energy snacks and things just got better from there.
The second section was beautiful, amazing scenery and we had our first view of Lake Victoria. About halfway through the section our support minibuses turned round and headed towards the back of the group. Word spread through the group that someone had fallen and might need stitches.
When we got to the drink stop we found out the person who fell was called Alison - but as there are 3 Alisons in the group we still didn't know which one it was.
When the bus arrived at the drinks stop Alyson was on it with a bandage wrapped round her head - she had quite a lot of road rash and lots of cuts on her face. She was very brave and was mostly worried about feeling a bit silly rather than her injuries.
Unfortunately despite my best attempts at persuading the staff to let Alyson cycle the last section (the general response being 'over my dead body') she had to wait until the last 200m to rejoin the group.
A short distance outside Kisumu we all stopped and regrouped and put balloons on our bikes/hats and rode to the finish.
There was drinks and music and loads of photos when we finished followed by a lovely lunch by the pool (how civilised).
