Hey All,
Well we've been gone a whole 4 days!!!! Who said this backpacking was hard work....:) Firtsly we were given an extra room at our hotel at Heathrow (due to some kind of error)...then our flight was overbooked so we were upgraded then we got to our hostel and due to a heating problem...then had to send us to their sister HOTEL...nice room.. with en-suite, plasma screen on wall, concierge service etc etc..!! :) :)
We have landed in backpackers land today though at our hostel but we're pleasantly surprsied.. nice and clean (not to sure bout sharing a tiny bathroom with what looks like about 30 other people tho:( ).
We've seen loads in our 3days of sight-seeing! we've been up the empire state building, over to staten island, walked across brooklyn bridge, been on a carriage ride through central park, been to grand central station, shopped on 5th Ave....AND frozen ourself on Times Square on new years eve!!
Tomorrow we're off to see the statue of liberty, pay our respects at ground zero (where the twin towers came down Lynz! hehe)....and seeing the Knicks play at Madisson Square Gardens!!!
Sorry this is brief but our hostel is charging a small fortune for internet access!!!
Have a look at a few pics and let us know what you think!
Miss you all lots and we'll be back on here shortly.
Love Nicky and Jay xxxx
UPDATE...
Well a few days ago....we woke up on yet another freezing morning and headed down to the Statue of Liberty ferry. While waiting for our tickets (inside) they told us that it would be an 1hr 45mins wait which we thought was a joke as the queue for the tickets was tiny and only took us about 20mins....well then we went towards the ferry and saw the real queue....OH MY GOD!! It stretched literally around the entire park at the ferry dock. Obviously they don't let you see this before you've got your tickets! To add insult none of the line was under cover which for the first 1/2hr or so was okay.. getting past the hour mark (baring in mind we were stood in temps of around -5) with the snow started to fall I wasn't a happy bunny!!! :( The end was in sight when we could see the security tent only to be bypassed by the reserve ticket holders!!!
Anyway 2hrs in the feezing cold and snow later we boraded the ferry for the 10min ride to liberty island before we had to get off again (of course the thought crossed our mind to stay on and go straight back as we had passed the statue and taken pics) as you can see from the pics we braved it for all of about 10mins!!
We also stopped off at Ellis Island.. my main motive being I knew it from Hitch and the museum was obvioualy inside and warm!!
We did intend after this to go to ground zero but as we were forzen to the core we decided to go abck to the hostel to thaw out before our Knicks game!!
Well the Americans definitley know how to entertain!! The Knicks game was about 10% about basketball and the rest about food, drink, music and cheerleaders! (which Jay definitley did not object to... which you can see from the pics aswell!) We had a fab time though!
Last day in NY we went to ground zero which they are in the process of re-building.. not much more to say about that and then we headed for our second destination LA。
Bye for this blog entry check out the LA one also!!
Love again us2!!!
