Hello again everyone!
You lucky sods get another blog!! I've got some time to kill while Nic sleeps. The drama queen decided to have her second severe reaction to the malaria tablets (the ones which they don't even have stats on thats how rarely they occur!!) resulting blisters all over her body and a face like Rocky (smokin hot!!)!! Two injections in the bum later and she seems to be ok now...just a little tired out...what a wuss hey?! :-)
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the pics we put on showing you Rio, Sao Paulo and Iguacu.Since we last blogged we've covered a fair distance again and taken five flights!!! So we left Foz do Iguacu and headed to Manaus, in the Amazonas. A soon as we landed we started sweating, such was the humidity...not gonna be the prettiest pics you'll ever see of us!Manaus is a pretty grim place so we decided to maximise our time in the jungle and sign up to a 5 day jungle tour...I was dead excited, Nic not so much!! :-)
5 days in the jungle was awesome. We trekked through the forest spotting lots of weird and wonderful bugs, got to know all sorts of medicinal plants/trees, saw some bushtail monkeys. We also kayaked on the river spotting pink and grey dolphins, parrots toucans and woodpeckers and fished for piraña. We also went cayman hunting on the river at night!! We slept in hammocks in the middle of the forest which was awesome. The sounds in the pitch dark of the forest are incredible...and it was one of the best nights sleeps I've had!!
Probably best that I'm writing about the jungle experience as I don't think nics version would be quite so enthusiastic. Being constantly sweaty, trekking for hours in a dense forest, bugs all around you (and often on you), looking for animals you may or may not see wasn't her version of heaven...can't imagine why?! but overall she enjoyed it (I think!). We did get to see dolphins afterall! Also the peace and tranquility of the forest was amazing and we've never seen so many stars or such a spectacular lightning show!!
So after we left the forest we flew out of Manaus...and 13 hrs and three flights later, landed in our current location, Natal. To make up for putting Nic through 7 days of sweat and bugs, we're going the spend the next three weeks or so travelling down the north east coast jumping from one beach to another...should be really cool cause the landscape is supposed to be pretty spectacular with loads of sand dunes and all the beautiful shades of blue and green you can imagine!!
Right, I'm off to see if I can get the Everton game on the tele here at the hostel...we'll post some jungle pics soon so keep a look out.
Love Jay and NicXx
