Hi. Sorry for not posting the last few days. I was exhausted by the time we got back to our guesthouse/hotel. Anyway, the weekend gigs were great. We had an incredible amount of fun and had really good responses from the audiences and the owners if the two venues we played at.This first club was called Jazz Tungens in Bardubice and the second was called Bamboo in Zlin. People are very friendly and make you feel welcome. (not saying Prague people aren't:-)).
The traveling around has been so much fun. We've been laughing consistently for three days. These guys are really classic hey. They are such a pleasure
to play with, hang with and travel with. No strange/awkward/weird vibes- its a wonderful thing.
The weather has been awesome. It's been between 25 and 30 degrees. Hope u all enjoying the winter :)
I've been eating so many different things. Not really foods per say but different cool drinks, chips and bakery kind of stuff. Czech people keep it relatively simple when it comes to food. Kinda a meet an potatoes people. The make awesome beef goulash- but that's about it hey. I guess it's just nice to stop at a garage while on the road and buy stuff you've never had before. Makes life that little more interesting.
Musically, I feel really good. The gigs have been a real good things for me. I guess it's because I'm concentrating one thing, my role as a pianist in quite specifically composed music which has nothing to do with chops/technique but rather thematic and melodic playing. It's really the way I love to play and I'm truly greatful for the opportunity to play in that way. I must say, I have missed playing the piano so much but realize when I play with guys who have no egos, no preconceived ideas and a general respect for each other as people and as artists I can really bring what I have to offer both on and off the
bandstand. Anyway, I'm just feeling really happy and looking forward to my growth from this trip- I'm really learning alot.
Tonight we play Reduta Jazz club in Prague. They have a beautiful Petrof grand piano there. I'm looking fwd to it as the first two gigs I was playing an upright piano and yesterday's gig I played a keyboard. Oh ya!!!
I think I'm gonna start posting stuff every two days as it takes a while to take everything in and I'm just a lazy guy:-).
If my family and girlfriend read this, know that I love you all dearly.
Later, nick
