Off at 7am this morning - 20km between us and Santiago. The pain in my feet makes it a very tough walk but spirits are lifted as we see our friends from Brazil, America, Switzerland, Hungary and Ireland. Given the number of nations represented I think we might have some sort of Olympic drink off tonight !
We arrive in Santiago at midday and after receiving our compostella we check in to one of the best hotels I have ever seen. The parador in Santiago is situated in the Prazo Obtadorio adjacent to the cathedral. Similar to Leon, it was originally built to give aid and shelter pilgrims who had come to see the tomb of the apostle. It has since been a hospital, apothecary and orphanage before being converted to a parador. Apparently, a condition of the building becoming a parador was that everyday the first 10 peregrino's to present their compostella at the parador receive free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Going to put this to the test !
