Hi guys,
We have just finished our week in Tasmania and it was great cold but great, we really were suprised how beautiful it is.
We started by flying into Launceston and stayed at night at launceston backpackers great place old school house/ church but freezing no heating anywhere and it was cold, next day caught the bus to Hobart and spent the night there before we picked up the tour, another early start 0600 pick up and again really cold, we had 13 people on the tour and they were all great we spent the day in the Mount field national park and hiked to Russell falls and Tall trees walk then stoped at Lake StClaire which is Australia's deepest lake, the scenery was amazing snow fall over the mountains and most of the roads felt like a winter wonderland, we then headed for franklin Gordon national park and stayed that night at a house in Strahan which was a sweet old fashioned town centered around the lake, next day we walked around Strahan went to Hogarth falls and water tower hill for views of the Macquarie harbour, In the afternoon we took quad bikes out over the sand dune it was great fun , Jon was re living the old days then spent time mucking about in the sand playing Afl we then spent the afteroon travelling to Cradel Mountain National park where we stayed in a great log bunkhouse at the bottom of the valley. Next day the weather was shocking heavy down pours so got totaly soked and it was really cold I have 4 lavers on!!! we then stoped for a change of clothes and then onto Devon port and to St Columbus Falls with the Rainforest as a back drop and then on through the farm lands to the bay of Fires ( whicj I though was the most beautiful part) we hiked up to the lookout then down to the beach the sun was shinning and the cloudes had cleared it really was special, on the hike back up Jon and I deceided that it was time for a race so ran the last part back this normally takes 30mins to walk I ran it in 12!!.
nect day we were in Bicheno which again is a small town but sweet went to the blow hole and walked along the beach then spent the rest of the morning at the national Park Freycient where we hiked to Wineglass bay but could not get up to Mont Amos as the snow was to thick and there was a blizzard up ther, we then headed to the famous town of Port Arthur and that night we had a gost tour of the site, this is where in the 1860's this was a oenal colony as some really horrible things happened there as they served there time doind hard labour, may people tried to escape and even had pacts to0 kill each other just go get out of the hell hole!! it is said to be a very haunted place so of course I was wetting myself, the guided was scary looking and we just walked with lantens he told us of stories of the past and took us down in the dark to a room deep undergroiund where they used to cut people up, we were all stood there and then with out warning he slamed the door ( at that point I wished I had put a nappy on!!!! ( I think the 4 glasses of wine before we went helped my nerves) and knowing that so much hardship went on there made it even scarier, Jon hid behind the door and jumped out on jennie and totally freaked her out!!! , then next day we went out on a 3 hour boat trip from eagle point back to Port Arthur seeing amazing seals and wildlife and caves and waterfalls, after that we were freezing and even with out space man suits on a bit wet so off to the coffee shop to warm up then back to Hobart where we said our goodbyes but met up with ben Tatijan and jennie for a fish and chip dinner then a few more beers in Hobart.
Late night that night and then had to get the bus back to Lauceston at 0630 to get our flight back to Melboure.
We had the most amzing time and had such good fun it was again a same to leave.
