Hi Guys are you ready for a massive update!!!
2nd April - Woke up to Jon making me breakfast in bed then headed out for a stroll into Port Douglas center, had a great look around not much has changed in the past 5 years but a few more Clothes shops, Still my fav Mango Jams and the iron bar and central hotel all there, Booked a trip for my birthday out to the outer reef with Quick silver Even better showed my agent card and got discount!!! then went to the beach for the rest of the day as the weather is a great 32 degrees and sunny, spend most f the afternoon in the sea ( inside the stinger nets) the sea is really warn 27 degrees so like getting into a slaty bath but enjoyed jumping the waves and riding the waves , that evenibg we went to Mango Jams for dinner the best place in port douglas, and checked my emails, I have been a very lucky girl I had so many birthday wishes it was great( I must go away again).
3rd April went to the marina for breakfast then went off for the day with quicksilver on the big boat which holds 400 people but there was only 137 on it so loads of space, it took about 1/12 hours to get out there in which Jon had surprised me and booked us for a helmet dive and my birthday present a helicopter trip back to port douglas from the reef 45 mins flight is was amazing I really am a luckey girl we saw turtles stingrays and many more, we flew over the lower reefs and it really is beath taking to see, especially from the air.
We went got to the reef we got our stingers suits and headed off to get the snorkelling equipment, I had to have a kids mask and life jacket was looking reather fetching with wmy stinger suit on as well, we had a great time snorkelling around saw so many fish and the coral was amazing, after lunch we went on the semi subersibles where you can great a great view by beeing a bit deeper, we then had our helmet dive, this is where they put you in a wet suit on top of your stinger suit and put weights around you ( I fell over they we that heavy!!!) then you walk to the hemlets which the attach to you and you can beath as normal as you walk down the platform into the reef, really strange feeling as you can not see your feet but the guide bring up all kinds of marine life for you to see and stroke if it doesn't bite!!! he then drops a load of fish food around you and the fish go mad , you always have amazing fish swiming around you but when there is a feeding frenzy it is out of this world.
We then had another snorkell for an hour then caught our helicopter back to port douglas a really great birthday tottaly spolit.
4th April we deceided today that we would hire bikes and cycle to the rainforest habitat this is at the end of port douglas just off the captain cook highway which takes you to Cairns it is 7k it was only 13 dollars and we could have them for all weekend, the rainforest habitat wildlife sancutary was great it has three different enviroments to explore there is the rainforest which have boardwalks which run along the forest floor with loads of birds, the wetlands with more birds and fish turtles etc and the grass lands which is open air and you can hand feed the roaming kangaroos and wallabies, we made a few friends there and saw a few roo's with joeys.
When it was time to leave we deceided to go back and cycle along the beach as it was low tide , boy its alot harder to cycle on compact sand than tarmac!!! but great exercise and again amzing views of the coast line, after we needed a bit of a cool off so jumped ito the sea and started riding those waves again, I can not remember having so much fun in the sea.
Monday we went out to the daintree rainforest and cape tribulation this was an organised tour in a 4wd.
The Daintree national park is 80 k north of Cairns and is the most important part of the wet tropics ( so I was told) we went to the daintree river and had an hour cruis along search for croc;s and the natural widelife most of this area is uninhabited because it is do rugged , manley tall trees and big forrests, after we went on aguided tour of the national park showing us the forrest up close and explaing about the cycle, some of the trees are so old I can't remember but really old!!, we then went for a bbq lunch which they served up steak and salads very yummy !! then it was time to head off agin to Cape Tribulation which is where the rainforest meets the reef ( they say that alot though) we stopped a a creek which was saf to swim to cool down most of the 12 people on the trip got in it was cold at first but really refreshing and very wierd swiming with some big fish, they them gave us some strange fruits which were from the forrest and a good old cup of tea, we then jumped back on the 4wd and went to Cape Tribulation beach , really pretty but not a swimmer to many jelly fish, after we stoppd at the Daintree ice cream center where they have very wierd flavours from the strange fruits they grow, then back to Port Douglas.
