I am now a vegetarian
I am sitting in the Madrid train station and just thinking to myself ¨Wow, why is bread, sandwiches, ham, bread, everywhere I look?¨ I mean sure, I stuffed myself with bread in France, but unless I want to eat grease on a plate with an extra order of meat, or fried sardines aka tapas, food is not an option in Madrid. I am sure you are all wondering how in God´s name Nick is surviving with those options and in short if it wasn´t for Burger King & KFC (and we are both ashamed to admit, but our Hostel mates dragged us too, Hard Rock Madrid), the poor boy wouldn´t be alive right now. But I promised Kelli to keep him alive and I am doing my darnest. (The american grease wasn´t bad either)
Besides the food, Madrid was an absolute blast. Within five hours of derailing in the middle of nowhere, Nick and I checked into our hostel, met really fun people, and walked right into the annual Gay Pride parade. Needless to say it was a 'fabulous' introduction to the city. We walked with our new friends to dinner ate around ten (they do things late here) and we were out most of the night enjoying the Spanish culture.
Yesterday our version of sight seeing was wandering the streets, (shopping for me) and enjoying a beautiful afternoon in a beautiful park. From there we met up with the gang and headed out to the bull fight. I was reluctant to go because of the inhumanity of the slaughtering but I tried to remember it as culture. Turns out I should have listened to my instincts, what I witnessed was honestly the most terrifying nightmaric killing I have ever seen. Maybe its the Berkeley in me but as I sat and watched that bull´s life literally drain out of him in the form of blood all the while being teased, taunted and tortured. I left in tears, natious, and forever changed. And that was after the first bull, apparently they kill sever over a 2.5 hour period. I lasted 15 minutes, 15 minutes too long. YIKES!
Nick and I spent the rest of our evening planning our day for today and made an itinerary change. We are headed for the the beaches of Malaga and we are both ready to relax for a day and a half in the sun (don´t worry dad, with sunscreen). We love and miss you guys, thank you all for the support!
