Had a lye in today as not much noise upstairs. After some rather cardboard, value cereal we decided to walk to the Greyhound Bus office to confirm our dates for onwards trips round Oz. Was soooooo hot outside again.
We are going from Cairns to Brisbane and found out today the coach is going to take 32 hours!!! Agh! The office was at the Marina so whilst there we booked ourselves onto a boat trip out to the Great Barrier Reef, taking us to Green Island the only cay on the reef with a natural rainforest.
On our way to the supermarket we found a camera shop that hire out underwater digital cameras and then you get a CD with all your pics and videos on, all for 45A$ for a days hire. We decided to do it as it is the only way to get decent pictures of the reef.
When we went out after dropping the food back we heard a really loud noise in the trees above, looked up and the trees were alive with massive bats, hundreds of them in every tree, hanging upside down asleep! We tried to get photos but was hard as they blend into the darkness of the trees. We picked up our underwater camera ready for tomorrow and on our walk back we saw some of the bats flying, their wingspan is like the size of Nicks arm!!!! We chatted to a guy who said they're fruit bats!!
