From pg 3 of iNext, published across the Northern Indian states, on the 26th Nov. It's the latest report from the 2nd day of the 2nd India v. Sri Lanka test in Kanpur... (see attached). The translation (from a man in a newspaper stand) is something like: "A UK couple were on honeymoon, but they came to watch their favourite game in Green Park, Kanpur. After marriage, people often go out to celebrate their honeymoon at some hill stations, but the magic of Sachin's [Tendulkar, the megastar of Indian cricket] batting brough them here. In order to enjoy the match they came to the balcony and they were claping when Sachin, Yuvraj and Dravid showed their mettle and they were very happy and they were clapping again. In order to celebrate their honeymoon they selected India; they said they were married in the last month. They left England in order to celebrate their honeymoon and now they will be going to West Bengal. Brilney (sic) said that Nick was very fond of cricket and they had planned to watch the cricket match in Kanpur. Though Brilney is not so interested in the match, she agreed to come and watch anyway. They said that the people here were very excited. Nick is a project manager and Brilney is a jewellery designer. They first came to Agra and from there they came to Kanpur. After watching the match they will go to Jaipur, Delhi and West Bengal and on 18th December they will reach England. Nick said that cricket is not a game of a particular country, but it is an international game. Wherever the match is played he is interested in watching it. He said that his cousin has married a Sri Lankan cricket player, Kanishka, and that is why he is attached to Sri Lanka. The final para is about Gate 3 that no-one quite understands!! Although Bryony wasn't too happy about being dragged 5 hours on rough roads to a town that doesn't feature in any guidebooks, only to watch some cricket, we had a very pleasant day - again, the only 'goras' in a 25,000 seater stadium, watching India pile on some runs... We left the cricket ground in a mass of people asking for our autographs, for some reason. After signing about 60 bits of paper, tickets, plastic etc. (occasionally signing 'Shane Warne'), we finally were able to get onto a cycle rickshaw and escape.
