Baracoa is the western most point in Cuba and where Christopher Columbus first landed and there are lots of statues and memorabilia to him. Its surrounded by tropical countryside and beaches and has a very small town feel to it. On the trip there we passed through the most beautiful scenery with little wooden shacks dotted along the roadside and people washing their laundry in rivers and then leaving it on the banks to dry.
Aside from some nice views and three forts that the Spanish built there wasnt much to see in the town but we relaxed and enjoyed sipping cocktails while taking in the view from the top of the fort, eating wonderful fish and getting to know the locals in the Casa de la Trova with great live music! We considered doing some trekking but having heard that the trek to see Castro and Ches revolutionary headquarters was open we couldnt resist moving on to do that.
