Natal will forever be known as the only town in the World without an Irish bar and it was our misfortune to arrive there for St Patricks Day! However we did our best and managed to drink green coconuts on the beach and then followed that by green caiprioskas to keep with the theme.
We stayed in Punta Negra outside of Natal and discovered that basically we were in the Brazilian Costa del Sol (for non Europeans basically it was just a big Brazilian seaside resort). We got into the swing of it relaxing on the beach and watching every type of food vendor selling their wares along the sand.
We had heard that the snorkeling was particularly good around Natal so we headed to a coral reef 7km off shore called Macaraju and donned all the gear early in the morning and set off to see what we could. There were lots of beautifully bright coloured fish in vivid yellow and electric blues.Gareth even saw a morae eel heading straight for a bite of my toes and rescued me just in time. Unfortunately the visibility wasn´t as good as it could have been so we didn´t get to see all that we´d hoped but it was fun nonetheless.
