Hello from the good ship Navimag.............................we have just spent 4 nights and 4 days on the Navimag boat from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt. Due to it being winter time there was only 20 people on our boat instead of the usual 120 in the summer. Fortunatley though we were very lucky with our company (except for the werewolf!!) and the weather and had a fantastic time.
The first day was pretty cold and cloudy and although the view was good we spent most of the time inside playing cards and learning to play dominoes, we sound like an old couple!! We met a couple of great Americans, a Canadian girls and a couple from Oz who we hung out with most of the time. Our days being filled with the difficult task of eating, sleeping and playing cards, I did think of you all working hard............once!!.
On the second and third day the sky cleared and we could enjoy a better view of the Andes mountains and glaciers and with whales being spotted on the horizon spurting their water spouts into the air, life couldn`t get any better. A couple of the whales passed close to the boat and through Steve`s expert camera skills we could see clearly a group of Orcas and on a seperate occasion a blue whale with barnacles on his back, the blue whales come here to breed during the winter.
On our last night it was Bingo party night, this mixed with the dominoes now makes us sound ancient! We enjoyed a nice dinner and then as I was chatting to one of the girls Steve stood infront of me grining with camera in hand. As I turned round the American guys carried in a cake as everyone sang Happy Birthday. Every morning they serve brownies in packets and that morning everyone had been stealing them so they could make the cake, I couldn`t work out why the brownies had become so popular that morning and neither could the chef.
Anyway..........our group was very lively and it was a great bingo night, obviously I also think the abundant amount of alcohol helped. Steve won the first prize and got a hat but had to disco dance to everyone on board (including the lorry drivers of the cows in the hold) before they would give it to him. I didn`t win anything thankfully but they did give me a pair of strange Navimag socks as a birthday girft!!
We departed Monday morning and are now heading up to Pucon with the Australian couple.
