The journey here was the worst yet as it was sooo bumpy on the top bunks, and the air con was stuck on high so it was freezing. But HEY! All part of travelling I suppose. We arrived into the city at 6am alongside the beach, and it was mad to see so many people already soaking up the sun at that time of day! We didn't think we could check in so early, but we got lucky and managed to grab a few hours sleep before chilling downstairs for the rest of the afternoon.
As we were within walking distance to the beach, we decided to check it out the next morning, and the waves were HUMUNGOUS! It was a good laugh as they literally battered us as soon as we tried to get further in, and 9 times out of 10 we ended up with sand in every place imaginable.... lush! Haha. We did the same the next day too, but hired loungers this time as it was slightly hotter - cue tanning session. We made a schoolboy error though and didn't bring any body wash with us.... our hostel shower was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen and was quite literally a dribble!!
We'd heard there was some hot springs with mud baths not far from the main city, so we booked onto that for the following day, and treated ourselves to some fajitas the night before which were AMAZING... or so we thought! We got up excited the next morning ready for our relaxing day, but on the way Billy got some painful stomach cramps. They eased off slightly, and we picked up a lovely Norwegian couple along the way, spending some time with them once we'd got there. We headed straight for the mud baths, which was a weird experience! They seemed to get rid of the stomach aches though. The mud had a milkshake consistency - strange cos we thought it'd be thicker - and it almost made you float. We didn't know how long we were supposed to stay in there for, so after 10 minutes of lathering ourselves in it, we got out to sunbathe and let it dry. This was a strange feeling as the mud obviously tightened all over as it was drying, and made your skin look all wrinkly in places... sexy! Time to wash it all off under amazingly hot outdoor showers (again, should have bought our body wash haha) and we moved onto a little jacuzzi that was a lovely hot temperature and the water was made up of minerals. We stayed in here until we looked like pruney tomatoes! The final part was 2 big mineral pools - one which was 37 degrees, the other was 26. Heaven! You had to get into the hot pool for 10 minutes, then sunbathe on the lounger for the same amount of time, before getting back in to either hot or cold. This ensures your body temperature is maintained. The stomach cramps came back almost as soon as Billy was out of the mud baths, and he did not feel well at all, thinking it was potentially food poisoning. With that, I had a couple more quick dunks in both the hot and cold pools, and we headed back to the hostel.
Unfortunately it did turn out to be food poisoning, and Billy didn't want to do anything but stay in bed (and sit on the toilet) as he was in so much pain... it was pretty horrible to see and I didn't know what to do half the time, made me feel quite useless!! Luckily we'd only booked in for 4 nights at our current hostel (which it turned out was quite the party place!) so we moved into something a little more comfortable for 2 nights before we were due to leave for Mui Ne. I even went to the beach and for dinner by myself on one of the days.... extremely weird after eating and being with someone constantly since we'd begun our travels! I did worry about him the whole time I went out, worrying myself silly for the most part, but it was nice to just have some 'me' time too. He was still bad when we left to get the bus the next morning... I really hoped it wasn't going to be too painful for him!!

Jago Hey Nic ! Loving reading your blogs, brings back memories of my 'backpacking days'. What I like is the honest account of things including the unglamorous aspects of it ! Don't worry, you'll soon forget those once you're back and just remember the good times of which you and Billy seem to be having plenty ! Hope he gets better soon. Take care and have fun ! Jago x
