All, Hong Kong
Hey ya dudes!
Sorry its taken so long to write anything on this but we have been majorly busy since we landed in Hong Kong!! So... What havent we done........
Okay... we landed in Hong Kong Airport after an 11 hour flight with lots of films and food. We only slept for about an hour! O well, we were too excited to sleep!!
So after landing we got the bus back to the house that we are staying in with Calina's aunt and two cousins and tried to sleep for a few hours as we were going out in the night. This kinda worked but made us feel even worse! O well, that night we went to see Chinese New Year fireworks in Tsim Sha Tsui. These were very pretty so lots of pictures were taken but none came out very well so have added only a few. We met up with a few more of Calina's family and walked through the town. There were lots of pretty lights and New Year decorations! We also walked along the Avenue of Stars! Its like the walk of fame in LA but of Chinese stars, so I'm afraid we dint know many of them but it was still good. A few we did know were: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Michelle Yeoh but that was about it. O well!
The next day we met up at Calina's uncles flat to have Dim Sum! Woohoo! I tried lots of different ones!! Woohoo! Very very yummy! We were then taken to a Chinese New Year Carnival in Tai Po which had a lion dance (which we have seen lots of so apparently will have a very lucky year!! Woop!) We also threw our wishes on a wishing tree and banged a drum (again.. very lucky apparently). We then got taken to see some traditional houses which were really cool. And that night all of the family that live in Hong Kong and us went out for some dinner! Yum again!!!
The third day we went to see The Great Buddha! Which is exactly what it says on the tin! (Quite a few pics of us walking up steps etc.) Also up there was the Wisdom path. The writing on the columns are gospel religious writings and were placed in the shape of an infinity sign. Me and Calina climbed this to see the view from the top but it was a little misty so mainly pics of us on rocks.
Both me and Calina have been really lucky already coz we got lots of red packets for Chinese New Year from Calina's family. This is a New Year tradition in which red packets are given to unmarried family members with money in.
On Thursday we went to see The Peak which is a tall place where you can see the skyline of Hong Kong! We also went at the right time so that we could see it all during the day and the sun setting and then the night! Very pretty! We also got a ferry over to the island as it was on Hong Kong Island and saw the skyline from there which was cool! Couldn't get very good pics though which was a shame.
We also went to some markets which were very hustle bustle but good! And went to a bar that night and learnt some Chinese drinking games. We went to Ocean Park which is a theme park with lots of rides and some animals. We saw a dolphin show and got soaked on the log flume! And had a very good day! We then went out for a very nice dinner with Calina's Auntie Anne and family. I had a traditional Chinese birthday cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday to me! So cool
The next day we went to Hong Kong Island again with Anne and went round some markets ate Thai food and paddled on the beach before going to Chinese karaoke in the evening which was very very funny! Shamefully Yvonne Calina's cousin has a video of this! O well! You win some u lose some! I got a Chinese birthday card and the screen of the karaoke had Happy Birthday Nicola written on it! O plus I got some Chocolate Pandas! Mmmm!
We then went to Jumbo kingdom which is a big floating restaurant and had Dim Sum and took some pictures of us on thrones. We also went to the Peak again so that we could get a good picture of us both at the top! It worked! Lol.
As you can see we have had Dim Sum many times and stuffed ourselves silly with really nice food! But have had a really really good time! As you can also see we have had the residents tour of Hong Kong and done everything I think we could possibly do in here! And its been so so much fun but very tiring! Thanks to all of Calina's family who looked after us during our stay in Hong Kong and went out of their way to help us!
Speak soon! Nic and Calina xxx
